1st rule of backup, is don't put all your eggs in one basket, 2 or more copies of everything in different places. ie don't make the mistake a lot of people do, and move your jpgs to the external drive, leave them somewhere else as well.

if you want to backup the whole system to avoid future reinstalls, do a macrium disk image backup (not clone) of all your machines to the external drives too and create the macrium boot cd.
