sleeping in a car?

Would you sleep in a car if you could save £40?
I'm dropping off something for a client from London to Wiltshire.
They're paying me £80 fuel which will allow for 2 return. So I drop off something on Monday, and collect it again Tuesday.
Can't use a courier as it's just too expensive.
I don't have to be back in London. I can work remotely. Would you sleep in your car to pocket the £40?

If your car is comfortable enough, I would.0

Would depend on what car you have, nice big Volvo estate with the seats laid flat..possibly, a small hatchback no.
The other advice I would give, if you are an employee, would be look for a new employer, one who is not too tight to cover the cost of an overnight hotel stay.0 -
for £40 no
I slept in my car at a car show a month ago as I could not be bothered putting my tent up. It is an estate car and was roomy enough and I had a sleeping bag and wore my clothing, but it was still a miserable night sleep and damn freezing!
So I would not do it at this time of year as it sucks and a £29 premier inn room would be more appealing.0 -
I was always under the impression it is illegal to sleep in a car (as in have the keys on your presence) my JP colleague at work informs that it falls under the banner of not being in full control of the vehicle0

HAHA ok.
Well it's my own business and when you're in that position every pound you keep in the bank is a bonus. I've billed the client £80+VAT for delivery, wilthsire is 100 miles away from london. I think given the above experiences it's probably just worth driving back to London and getting a good nights sleep.
100 miles X 4 X 45p is £180 in mileage. LOL.
I've set myself a personal challenge, I want to make my £2K car free after mileage claims from my company. I need to cover 10K miles for business travel to get that.
B&b + food on the road is going to be well in excess over £40. So that is not an option. Bonus of travelling back - I draw £100 in mileage claims out of the company tax free. I get VAT back for the fuel I fill up so £80+VAT would be £96 at the pump.0 -
I'd prefer not to, but i've slept in the car before so it wouldn't be a big deal. The thing is next morning unless you were somewhere that you could get a wash and shave it would make you feel ropey for the rest of the day.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

It depends where you are and why you are doing it. Sleeping in your car for a few hours in a motorway services area is acceptable. Sleeping in your car on the beach at Newquay is illegal and you'll be given a penalty by the council. http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=33744
Not to many of the private parking companies that run them, plenty of examples on the Parking Ticket, Fines & Parking board of individuals receiving PCN's for £80 or £100 for having a kip on an empty service station car park.0 -
I have slept in my car before, and would again. Not the most comfortable nights sleep ever, but it was ok for one night.
I do know someone who genuinely lives in his car. I couldn't do that.0
