No much anyone can do is there really... all of them will pop up prices and it's pretty pointless switching as the one you move to will do the same in days/weeks....

We just have to bend over!

Funny - I fixed 3 weeks ago when everyone was saying prices would rise after the party conferences were out the way. The price for a 2 year fix was cheaper than the cheapest variable rate available then....

But please keep on bending over, it suits you....
    I think....

I'll bet the bankers are involved somewhere - making profit on buying/selling gas futures contracts & gernerally ramping the market upwards.

there is no genuine shortage of gas or oil... Salmond keeps telling us Scotland is floating on it.

Government of both colours are culpable for a lot of this. The FIT scheme, for example, meant units effectively being bought for 43p per unit. Any effective subsidy this offered is effectively being picked up on all our bills.
RT was suggesting yesterday that Spain will shortly start taxing solar as they can't afford the subsidies. FIT was and remains a bonkers tactical fix - windfall tax time.

governments should openly admit that they can't do anything to control the market and simply tell us to get on with it.
Leave strategy and pricing to the market. The free market capatalists know best. They will ensure we have a safe, robust, resilient, affordable supply.

the government decided many years ago that energy companies were not responsible for security of supply, just like food, clothing, housing and some other essentials.

the government determines the level of taxation and the unnecessary extra costs to fund their (greenish) promises to the EU to add to the price of energy.

the regulator OFGEM (i.e. the government) decided that there was no need to determine the price but to leave it to the market

there is no law of nature that says energy must be 'affordable'.

so the government does indeed affect the market in major ways

What was Millibands contribution when energy secretary to address the issue of new power generation?

Nothing new the issues have been with us for 15 years.

Looks like the best bet for customers is switch to a fixed rate deal now before any further rises...even if it is with the same supplier.I'd doubt any duel fuel switch would save over £100 a year in general with the main companies taking in direct debit etc.
If the government were serious in helping the customers then maybe they could remove the 5% Vat for a period of time...
Although this won't happen the cost to the Treasury looks less than £2bn a year...the link below is 2011.

Higher utility prices is what you get for selling the industry to shareholders who are driven by profit.

Remind me again please, was it a Labour government that did that?
