Private companies are installing these on wealthy land owners property and land...?
To get these initiatives you need to be on a low income?
Please provide some empirical evidence to support the claim you just made, that does not sound quite right to me.

You are unlikely to be on a low income if you have the space to install hydro electric and wind power!!
The scheme has been cut considerably in terms of how much you get paid per unit, but many people are on the index linked for 25 years scheme as introduced by Ed Milliband. It started off as 43p per unit, of which we are paying for.0 -

Ok that is a fair point, yes once you have reached your efficiency limit, there is still going to be a base amount usage that you will have to pay for. So if prices rise more and more, it will essentially be like pay the same as what you used to, but for the half the amount of usage. That is worst case scenario thinking of course.
I am a big believer in having an open fire, I cannot wait to open up my fire place and get the chimney swept and get a basic dog basket in there. A good roaring fire in my house could very easily heat my entire lounge. If I leave the door open the heat will spread through to the kitchen and I hope some upstairs. I contacted some local businesses, secured a nice source of free wood
, plenty of free news papers come through the door, and filling a few bins full of coal is not to expensive
.

It's a bit like the ones that make me laugh when people say "I don't care I'm on the cheapest tariff, I shop around all the time. It's others fault if they stay on the standard rates."
Yes this is true. But the point is that once you have gone onto the cheapest tariff, even if you shop around all the time your bill will still be rising by the 8-15% a year which seems to be the norm.
So basically you are making one good saving the time you switch to the cheapest deal but after that you still have to suck up the annual rises like everyone else.0 -
Thank you Graham,
I will commence reading that link.
shortchanged,
Got my self fixed for three years, so I am happy about that, but of course when this ends, I will have to join everyone else at the prices then. Which is not great to be frank.
However, there is absolutely no harm in switching and ditching (as our famous Martin says) and to try and save some cash where ever possible. Lets be fair though, it takes very little effort to run a comparison and find the cheapest out there.
It is the same with petrol, you don't pay 2/3p more a litre, when a mile or so away there is a station charging less.
After people have exhausted every option to reduce their bills, then fine, if you are still struggling then maybe things are not fair somewhere and that needs to be fixed. But I will be honest, I cannot stand people who just sit and moan and make no effort to change their circumstance, I have seen it amongst my own family and friends circles.0 -

You will be paying a premium for the longer term fix anyway.
I've done as much I can as in insulation etc. I always shop around for the cheapest deal but my utilities bill is still rising from this point at whatever rate the utility companies decide, which funnily enough always seem to be way above the rate of inflation.0 -
Yes my standing charge is a few pence more per day than some of the cheapest shorter term fixed and my unit prices for electricity and gas are also a penny or two higher. Not surprised at this at all, but if energy goes up say at a nice round 10% this year and going into next year, and continues year on year. I have at least got some stability in my bills, going forward I can anticipate costs and budget more effectively, rather than just cross my fingers every month hoping my bill comes in on black credit.
I have also got three years to begin implementing my future plans to keep my energy bills and usage down. Knowing I can stick to a budget plan for that, not running the risk of dipping into it because my bills have suddenly hiked.
It really is each to their own I guess in how they approach energy.0 -

As long as you realise that your bill will likely increase by 15-30% depending on the rises after your fix ends.0 -
I would just like to add, however, that I am not against looking at ways to reduce energy prices and make energy fairer.
Heard what red Ed had to say, stupid. Next please.0 -
Yes I do realise. I will be ready for that. I can look ahead too
. Although it does stagger me that most cannot. 0 -

Fair play, but it's still an unpleasant/unwelcome piece of news when it happens.0
