    What a bizarre response.

At no point did I mention Global Warming or climate change. And as such I have no wish to debate so many controversial theories.

The relationship between energy prices and poverty is well proven.

My hatred of this country is fuelled by this governments treatment of the most vulnerable members of society.

A basic responsibility of Government is to ensure conditions prevail where employment, decent living conditions, lack of poverty and the health and wellbeing of it`s citizens is sacrosanct.

This government of spivs seemed to have failed on every count.

I work in care and look after and assist some of the most vulnerable people I have ever met, your point cannot be applied to all and is not factually accurate.

My current client is a very vulnerable disabled man and has full financial support to live independently, he is not in fuel poverty and does very well with his finances. He also took full advantage of the schemes available to help reduce his energy bills.

You cannot make claims like that, there are other socioeconomic factors at play that are unique to each individual house hold. Some factors may include, a lack of budget understanding, confusion over tariffs, lack of awareness about schemes available to them, low education, alcoholism, drug addiction and I cannot think of anymore.

My clients unique situation, a mid 20's man, degree educated, computer literate and capable of forward thinking. I cannot speak for any other people, but you can see that the "most vulnerable" are not actually all that vulnerable!

British Gas have now followed suit.

Average duel fuel bill going up by 9.2%.

Gas up around 8%, electric up around 10%.

    Never mind.

Our great Auntie BBC is on the case, having produced an idiot's guide to reading a bill.

  • Rising house price will enable more people to move onto low LTV - thus cheaper - mortgage rates, easing the burden of rising energy bills for hundreds of thousands.

British Gas coming under fire. This would be normal. However, to me, this annoyance at British Gas does seem genuine.

Only in May 2013, they stated they would use profits made in the cold winter due to excess usage to hold off large price increases this winter.

It seems they have forgotten, or ignored their pledge.

The questions appear to be along the line of "why make such a pledge if you are not going to stick to it".

Have to laugh at British Gas thinking that it would be a good ideal to do a Q&A on Twitter that very quickly turns into a total car crash for them.

My other half rang BG earlier to find out what my unit prices will be after the price rise and they say they couldn't tell me because it maybe different rises in different parts of the Country and only the directors know and they haven't been told anything.

And we will get a letter within 12 days to let us know.

Far be it from me to defend British Gas, but:
British Gas, the UK's biggest energy supplier, said in May that a profit boost would be used to delay future price rises.

This came because customers used 18% more gas in the first four months of the year owing to the cold weather.

At the time, a spokesman said: "We will use that [cold weather benefit] to effectively hold prices for as long as possible."

In theory, they may have done that, but then again they could be manipulative, lying, inefficient, overpaid, jobs-for-the-boys, cartel-playing shysters.

No much anyone can do is there really... all of them will pop up prices and it's pretty pointless switching as the one you move to will do the same in days/weeks....

We just have to bend over!

BG are like EON. They can only directly influence some 20% of the price we see now.

The rest is subject to costs incurred due to things like regulatory reforms, like the renewables subsidy , micro generation feed in tariffs, etc.

Government of both colours are culpable for a lot of this. The FIT scheme, for example, meant units effectively being bought for 43p per unit. Any effective subsidy this offered is effectively being picked up on all our bills.
