MSE has changed vastly, a difference that was obvious even before Martin announced the sale - when I first noticed it the sale must have been under discussion. It's not that people argue that's the difference - they always did! It's that the Grabbit board which was an amazing resource and an amazing community is being managed out of existence. I picked up news of a great glitch on Grabbit a few weeks back, a couple of minutes after it was posted. When I came back 1/2 hour later to check the details so I could pop into Mr T's on the way to work - the post had been moved to a food board or somesuch.
How many people are able to trawl different boards for glitches - the strength of Grabbit was that everything that needed a quick response was in one place. Now Grabbit is full of on-going threads about Lego deals, etc. The sort of glitches that made it compulsive and such a great community in the past are actually moved off it these days. Grabbit is now mainstream and boring. And glitches and deals are more frequent and easier to find on other deal sites. Some great glitches in recent times haven't appeared on MSE at all - or maybe I just didn't have the time to trawl MSE's forums looking for info that other deals sites sent straight to my in-box.
I've thought for a long while that the change to Grabbit is deliberate. MSE is no longer a community interacting & supporting each other on Martin's site - it's a corporate site being run & controlled by corporate employees and to corporate guidelines.
I still use MSE resources - there's a great deal of excellent info on all sorts of things in historical forum posts, & if I want to know about how to sell Royal Mail shares or move my utilities I still come here. But I said a long while back that if the cutting edge of moneysaving moves there's no point complaining - as a board guide says earlier in this thread, if you don't like it then leave. It's happened - there's no question there are better routes to deals and glitches out there now. That's where to find me these days. I'll see you there!0 -
I guessing MSE are hoping this just fades away then without resolving concerns?0

So, any further ideas for such bargain sites would be welcome.
I will continue to use some of the other boards on here, while they last. I don't do Twitter etc. as it seems rather impersonal and what I liked about here was it felt friendly and welcoming.
I'm the same as you, cannot be bothered with MSE anymore, all I need is a quick glance to find a deal or a glitch so head straight for HUKD. And speaking of baragin sites - what is 10 ways all about? It's been mentioned a couple of times on MSE recently, I had a quick look this morning and get my head around it.0 -
I do find Grabbit a bit slow-moving compared to what it was like a few years ago. It was exciting/fast-changing with lots of different things to look at. It was easy enough to scan and only took a minute to scan 2 or 3 pages.
Regarding deals now being moved into obscure boards (I didn't realise this), would, say, a Tesco 75% off deal be moved out of the Grabbit board, just because it was from Tesco?
I do find it harder to spot bargains these days. I can never fathom why a 5% off deal would be lumped with a 90% off deal? In theory this means the punter who is just after a bargain (and is not bothered where the bargains are) would have to read EVERY thread/board?0 -
The whole concept of 'grabbits' seems to have altered IMO. Everybody seems to post anything on this board regardless of the type of deal just because they know it is the most watched board. It's made the board much less useful than it was.
Im my vocabulary a 'grabbit' is something that you literally, as the name suggest, grab because it won't still be there in a day or two or three!
But now people seem to post things that they think are either 'just a good price' or are not time limited in any way defeating the whole concept of the board in my opinion.
Keep real grabbits (blink or you'll miss it) on grabbit and post everything else on Shop but don't drop. It was what this board was once about and when it was at it's most useful.
Just my 10 cents worth.0 -
I thoroughly agree with moonshine. Keep grabbit ONLY for deals that are literally 'right now', that end in say less than 7 days or are a pricing error/glitch of some sort that will end as soon as the company spots it. Everything else should be posted/moved to the Shop board. There are far, far too many non-deals posted on here!
It might be hard work for the admins initially but people would soon learn not to post things that (possibly) only they think are a good deal because xyz company is selling something a few quid cheaper than abc company, and there is no concept of urgency to the deal at all.
That's what Grabbit should be about, as it once was and it was much, much better then. I'm sure it would become a useful resource once more.0 -
I'm sure it would become a useful resource once more.
yeah, at the moment there's far too much dross to wade through on here. Too many deals that really aren't deals at all. That's why I rarely visit nowadays, preferring HUKD as it is much better organised and run.
But if the bosses really do want constructive comments then there's some for you in the last two posts. Let's hope you take note and make some changes before it all goes completely t**s up.0 -
yes please, can we have the grabbit board like it used to be.0
