WarriorPrincess wrote: »MSE has changed vastly, a difference that was obvious even before Martin announced the sale - when I first noticed it the sale must have been under discussion. It's not that people argue that's the difference - they always did! It's that the Grabbit board which was an amazing resource and an amazing community is being managed out of existence. I picked up news of a great glitch on Grabbit a few weeks back, a couple of minutes after it was posted. When I came back 1/2 hour later to check the details so I could pop into Mr T's on the way to work - the post had been moved to a food board or somesuch.
How many people are able to trawl different boards for glitches - the strength of Grabbit was that everything that needed a quick response was in one place. Now Grabbit is full of on-going threads about Lego deals, etc. The sort of glitches that made it compulsive and such a great community in the past are actually moved off it these days. Grabbit is now mainstream and boring. And glitches and deals are more frequent and easier to find on other deal sites. Some great glitches in recent times haven't appeared on MSE at all - or maybe I just didn't have the time to trawl MSE's forums looking for info that other deals sites sent straight to my in-box.
I've thought for a long while that the change to Grabbit is deliberate. MSE is no longer a community interacting & supporting each other on Martin's site - it's a corporate site being run & controlled by corporate employees and to corporate guidelines.
I still use MSE resources - there's a great deal of excellent info on all sorts of things in historical forum posts, & if I want to know about how to sell Royal Mail shares or move my utilities I still come here. But I said a long while back that if the cutting edge of moneysaving moves there's no point complaining - as a board guide says earlier in this thread, if you don't like it then leave. It's happened - there's no question there are better routes to deals and glitches out there now. That's where to find me these days. I'll see you there!
I didn't even realise this! Is that why Grabbit has become so quiet over the last while? It used to be the first thing I checked online each day - now I hardly look at it once a week.
WarriorPrincess is right - people do NOT have the time to read all the boards every day. Keep the good deals on Grabbit, or at least split between Grabbit (really urgent deals) and Shop But Don't Drop (the rest) - not scattered to the four corners of MSE!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

a perfect example of the issues raised above is this thread here
The items in that 'deal' are at the normal price, no discount, no special offers, no time limit on it and can be bought from more than one place at that price! Where's the 'grabbit' in that??? <shakes head>
No wonder this board is going down the pan, it's completely lost its way when things like that are allowed to clutter it up.0 -

no, I reckon grabbit has become so quiet because a heck of a lot of people are using other sites in preference, because this one has lost its way completely.
Other sites are better organised and better run. Grabbit is a mess, a mish mash of deals and nondeals, which makes it very difficult to spot the good deals amongst all the rubbish.0 -

Probably.
I loathe the layout of HUKD, but I do go there more often than Grabbit these days. What other deal sites are there?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

I would rather wade through one board than three. To be honest, though, I still find Grabbit has pretty useful deals.0

I prefer deals with some provenance, like Lidl Half Price Weekend or Aldi Super Six or Tesco glitches, but have been on so many wild goose chases on recommendations from the Grabbit board.
Biking to Tesco or H and M aint fun and a half day bus ride for Morrisons Poundland etc to find nothing at the end is really disheartening.0 -

Other than your three posts regarding site T&C's, there has only been one other question about the Twitter feed. The majority of the posts have been discussing what Grabbit has become, and how some users are unhappy with the types of posts on the board. If this thread shows anything, its that there are a spectrum of opinions... some users hate the idea that posts are moved to other boards, whereas others want every post without an expiry date moved. Its a delicate balance, and not everyone will be happy with the way the board is run. If you have ideas on how to improve the general Grabbit experience, perhaps a post in the Site Feedback board would receive more exposure from those in charge.0
