  • I love practical gifts. My favourites have been a set of Le Creuset pans, Sabatier knives, Kitchenaid blender, Kitchenaid food processor. I would never be able to justify buying these things for myself so love to get them for gifts. My late mum always used to get me baking trays, wooden spoons, tea towels etc and I loved that. My nephew - purely by chance, got me similar gifts last year (first year without mum) and I was touched. Already dropped my 'practical gifts' hint this year. My brother is the same - get him a screwdriver and he will be happy.

The worse pressy oh 'bought' me was a log, wrapped in a black rubbish sack, when what I actually wanted was a wooden mushroom for the garden, and the best pressy was a weekend in Studland Bay, including galloping a racehorse on a beach, and western riding! Amazing what 20 odd years of training can do! :D

  • We always write each other a list of what we would like for Christmas. We are supposed to pick things off it that we want to get each other, but most years my DH buys everything on the list! I've gotten wise to it and only write small things on it now but he still goes out of his way to get me something special. The last 3 years I have had a kindle, a laptop and camera. All of which I needed.

I've told him this year he must really stick to the list as we have twins who are about to turn 1 and they are the priority from now on. He does insist this will be our last Christmas of big presents though. We'll see

Last year he got me a Michael Kors purse, which I asked for. This year, I know hes got me a ring that I picked out, but hes out shopping with a friend today to spend the remainder of the budget on me, and though he kept asking me what he should get, I told him its entirely up to him! I shall see how he fares on the big day!
  • Having read through this thread I can only say youre all very lucky to get such lovely gifts. Had my birthday on Friday and it was a disaster, no effort is made at all, he didn't buy a card until the day before when pressurised by the kids and never asks me what I would like, in fact with 3 days to go until my birthday he hadn't shopped for it and if I suggested anything I was called money grabbing and reminded of how much the household bills cost, this coming from a man who finds £600 a month to spend on antique fairs which he justifies by saying he makes money, however we have a house full of glass he hasn't managed to sell.

He gives me a small amount of money to salve his conscience but never actually buys me a present he has chosen himself . Even on my birthday he suggested a trip to a town nearby which has around 5 antique shops to have a daytrip and lunch. When I said lets go to our local town for the lunch he got the hump and we never went. I would've been happy with the lunch and just me and him but he was more interested in the antiques than the lunch.

In terms of interests, money and time im bottom of every list he has and it hurts so much even though im resigned to it.

I spent the birthday money I got on xmas presents for the kids, I didn't get enough to do anything, what I really need would be basic things like a new haircut, or a new phone (ive got one of the kids old ones) a trip to the dentist, some new bras.

I don't earn enough from my part time cleaning job to sort out the kids and myself so the kids come first because I pay for all their birthday and xmas presents not the OH. It doesn't matter that the kids are actually grown up I still want to buy them a gift at xmas.

I cant imagine the luxury of being bought a laptop or a kindle or even an expensive mixer or food processor so be grateful for what your OH gets you, I would love any of the things mentioned already. I would love it even more if my OH was more interested in me but he has his work and his hobbies and all he does is argue with me, its always my fault , everything, according to him

after reading LOADS!! of xmas threads on here im so shocked to read how many peoples OH's buy them either very impersonal, practical gifts (oven cleaner, iron, hoover etc - fine if this is what you want however) and how many just get you to buy your own!! , and also that some just get nothing??

id never thought about how lucky i am that my OH of 6 years always buys me such nice things at xmas (ok i hint for some with the help of my mate!) but thinking back iv had one ex that "forgot" it was xmas!! another that brought me granny pants:eek:
so i have been on the rough end also!!

so my question is what sort of thing does your OH get you??
Their heart & soul. It beats anything that comes gift wrapped for me. Albeit the cost is minimal, its value is priceless.

I'm glad he said that because after buying his birthday present, I'm all out of ideas for his Christmas presents :rotfl:

  • I give my bf a list of things that I would like, and he can buy whatever he wants from it..

It normally just consists of things I need, like pjs and slippers.
Last year though it was a laptop as mine broke about 3 weeks before xmas..
Im not expecting something that big this year though
