after reading LOADS!! of xmas threads on here im so shocked to read how many peoples OH's buy them either very impersonal, practical gifts (oven cleaner, iron, hoover etc - fine if this is what you want however) and how many just get you to buy your own!! , and also that some just get nothing??
id never thought about how lucky i am that my OH of 6 years always buys me such nice things at xmas (ok i hint for some with the help of my mate!) but thinking back iv had one ex that "forgot" it was xmas!! another that brought me granny pants:eek:
so i have been on the rough end also!!
so my question is what sort of thing does your OH get you??

Not so much my OH but my dad gets me to buy the weirdest of presents for him to give my mam ... Examples include ...
Electric tin opener
Every hair removing machine going from a couple of pounds to over £300 from boots - my mams not even hairy
A ped egg
Trouser press
And the list goes on .... I keep telling him I think they are weird but he just says that she'll love them:o
Come Christmas morning she just looks at me and smiles (she knows I have to et them) and we have a laugh on boxing day
He does however still buy her nice things like jewellery, a 50" tv for bed room for her watching her tv, and perfume and stuff .... So he does love her and tries .... Just weird the things he thinks she will like

My ex never bought me a card or present for any occasion in 20 years.
I would have been happy with anything however weird it was.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
We don't buy each other anything , what's the point? All our money is joint.if we want / need anything we buy it.Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

My OH's quite good. He always says he doesn't know what to get, so I write down a few things - usually books and chocolates, which he dutifully gets. He also then picks a few things himself, last Christmas I got a gorgeous Top with the entire text of the Great Gatsby printed on it. Very fitting since I work in a library!0

now, I've never understood this problem with getting "practical stuff" for Christmas - I've had loads of good practical stuff over the years! Last year it was a garden spade, 2 years ago it was a stick blender. I've had new pillows, towels, all sorts of household things! ... why buy "boring stuff" for myself when I can get somebody else to buy it for me? That leaves me to go and choose my own "luxuries" and get them spot on - no wrong size/style/colour etc by somebody else getting it for me!
Each to their own I guess!0 -
A friend divorced her husband after opening a set of pans for christmas. Which cost him a lot more than a well thought out gift.
I would consider gifts such as this as house gifts and wouldnt dream of giving them to my wife.
These men are just lazy its not that difficult to note what your loved ones like.0 -
Mine is very good at buying gifts which are perfect for me without me even thinking of them; Pandora bracelet, cake pop machine, Yankee candle loveliness, Champney's bath stuff, Radley purse, sewing stuff, a onesie, pjs...etc
He has bought me a coffee machine and a stand mixer which some may see as house presents but I would never buy for myself and lusted over for a while (and both were on offer)************************************

I can't believe the saucepans caused the divorce on their own!
So what sort of gifts do you consider "suitable" then?0 -
I am one of the lucky ones as my partner buys me great presents. He's particularly good at picking out jewellery I'll like (and for his mother actually, and we have very different tastes!). I once got a nose stud for Christmas and he was quite miffed that I hadn't realised it was an expensive emerald0

My other half is useless! I usually end up getting my own things and then he wraps them, as pointless as it is! :rotfl:
One year he did get me a lovely bracelet, but then it turned out it wasn't gold and made my wrist go green, another year he did go out and choose pj's and slippers etc but I could never wear the pj's as they were far too small ( though I was extremely pleased he thought I was still a size eight after 3 kids lol)
E: And I would be over the moon with household gadgets...would love a coffe machine, so that's going on the list this year, im sure he cant go wrong with that0
