  • My OH has always put a lot of effort into getting me presents he knows I'll appreciate and he knows how much I love Christmas.

He searched for months once to get a copy of a favourite old black and white film for me. One year he bought me lots of different sized picture frames so I could make a gallery of photos of the boys taken over the years and then he hung them all for me. He knows I like quirky costume jewellery, baking stuff, perfume, books.

He did get me a stand mixer for my last birthday but only because he knew I really wanted one and wouldn't buy it for myself.

He cooks the Christmas dinner too!

    And now the final frame

Ooh I love household gifts, as long as they're thoughtful....I mean, is be peed off with an iron board but I really enjoy being in the kitchen...in fact, my husband bought me a set of copper bottomed saucepans last christmas and I was delighted!

If he bought me shoes or a handbag I'd kinda think he hadn't put much thought into it as I'm not massively into shoes or handbags...I have a pair of work shoes, gym shoes and going out shoes. What more do I want?!

He's generally very good. Main presents on both sides are usually something we can do together....tickets to a show or a few nights in a B and B somewhere (we don't do 'big' holidays) and then little bits...books, a DVD, bath stuff, Jammie's etc. I don't tend to ask for anything....my parents used to have us make a list with a budget and to be honest, it always used to irk me as I used to know most of what I'd be getting before the big day, so the surprise was spoilt.

I like to receive things that I wouldn't buy myself, such as jewellery but OH is useless and whenever he asks what I want and I tell him to surprise me, I just get nagged and am told "but I tell you what I want", what he fails to notice is that while he does state what he wants, I don't actually buy it, I buy him something I notice he mentioned he wanted earlier in the year. Though I do wonder why I bother being creative with gifts when it goes unnoticed...

I have given him a rather big hint this year though.....a solitaire ring for only one purpose!

    I've been Money Tipped!
My hubby can buy me very good presents but only when he chooses too. I usually have to tell him what I want. On the one hand, its good because I will get something i really want, but on the other hand, when he does take it upon himself to choose my gift himself it's so much better!
In recent years when he has chosen gifts himself (for christmas and my birthday) I have received a kindle, a blackberry, a camera and digital photo frame and an ipad mini.
These are all things I have loved and been totally suprised by, but wouldn't dream on buying them for myself!
He refuses to get me any kitchen appliances or things for the house, even though I really want them. He thinks they aren't suitable as gifts - I would love them! I had a good word with the kids earlier in the year and they managed to batter him down to buy me a new blender for others day. It was a big achievement!

He doesn't really like suprised so he'll tell me what he wants, but I will buy a couple of extra things too, so there is something unexpected for him.

Oh, and while I'll get hi. A little pile of gifts, he gets me just the one.
Last year I got a camera (as per my request as my old one bit the dust) and that was it from him. But my eldest convinced him to take them to house of Fraser so they could pick me a gift (we don't usually get gifts off the kids). I received a new bag and a lovely glass heart from them. Which was really nice
Well do this every year from now on, altho the hubby says he'll be taking them to pound shop this year as it cost him a fortune :rotfl:

We don't usually spend a lot on each other, maybe £20-£30 as we share most of our money ( have little savings of our own in credit union though we have kept going). So we tend to do novelty gifts... last year I got him Nerf guns... he decided to get me a proper present and got me an emerald necklace... so my £30 gift looked terrible !
  • my DP normally goes out the day before xmas eve or xmas eve and grabs makeup, wine etc .... anything he thinks i will like that he can get at a supermarket.... im easy pleased though ... hes got me nothing before too but it didnt bother me ... i have my family my health and my happiness thats all i need. plus i love to see DP and LO open there gifts the most xmas for me is about my kids not me :)

I either buy my own and OH reimburses me (that works very well. For the last two birthdays I've had a Paul's Boutique watch and £60 cash, and this years was a bottle of Cool Water Sea Rose, the most amazing hooded Lipsy bathrobe and matching Lipsy pyjamas) I cant for the life of me remember what he bought me last year (I know I got a bottle of Viva La Juicy perfume but god only knows what the rest of it was :rotfl:) or I have to give him exact - and I mean exact - due to his disability - instructions. Every year our budget is £100 and the instructions given this year are for a bottle of Lady Million and a £50 Next giftcard. I must say I've never had a duff present but if I did I would only have myself to blame :rotfl: I've never had the ring I wanted though :( every year I used to hint but I never got it.. I've given up now :o
He asks me for the strangest presents. :D He asked me for a rice cooker last year :rotfl: I didn't manage to get him it though because the one he wanted couldn't be had for love nor money. He wants a sandwich toaster this year - and a very specific one at that!! Luckily Argos definitely have it so that's easy enough. He also asked for two pairs of jeans (fine, no problem) and a ticket to the Leicester Tigers-Montpelier game in December.
I cant really remember what my exes have bought me - I know one of them bought me a beautiful gold watch one Christmas and some very expensive perfume but that's all I seem to recall. I don't think I've ever received any kitchen gadgets thank god :rotfl:

  • I love household items as gifts, but that may be because I only moved out 1.5 years ago and am still excited by the prospect of a matching set of pans haha.

The OH and I usually make a little list for each other in case we need some help, but generally we know what each other likes!

Last year I got him a football top of his team with his surname on the back, a case for his PSP and a few other little bits (football top was not cheap coming from Europe and being personalised!)

I don't mind receiving household items aslong as I have asked for them. I make a list for OH and he picks things from that, depending on cost I may only get a couple of bits. This years is all quite low cost, mostly books really.

Well they work for my wife, but Sorry I do look down on men who buy houshold items for their other halves unless specifically asked for. They would have to be very lazy or stupid to be doing that.

I'd much rather have household things than handbags etc, i've got a handbag, why would i need another one? and my biggest hate would be going to a spa for the day, give me an ironing board every time!!
