I've Been Caught Speeding !

I was caught speeding recently in a 30mph zone (I think the letter said I was doing 34mph). It's the first time I've been caught (!) although I do generally attempt to maintain the speed limit, particulary in 30mph and 40mph zones (not so much on motorways).
I returned the form that the Police sent me to state that I was the driver, I've just had a letter back today from them saying that, instead of paying £60 fine and 3 penalty points, I can go on a three hour speeding awareness course which will cost me £67 and I will incur no fine/points.
I think I will opt for the latter option but my question is, when I renew my car insurance, will I have to state that I have been convicted of a speeding offence. I'm not sure whether I will have been !
Thanks.

I might be wrong but I would think that no points = no conviction so no need to notify your insurance, ask at the awareness course, I'm sure they'll know the answer.
In the short term you have more to worry about as your going to get slated when the anti speeding brigade  catch up with you in this thread.0 -
Go on the course.
You will NOT have been convicted.
You will NOT have to inform your insurer.0 -
Some insurers are now asking if you have been on a speed awareness course. Not sure how they would find out if you lied - they do not have access to the PNC and afaik it is not marked on your license.
NB: I am not advocating lying in this case, just playing devils advocate.0 -
Well, the answer depends on the questin asked.
If the question is "do you have any speeding convictions" then it's a no.
Insurers publically stated a few months ack that they don't view 3 or 6 points for minor speeding infringements to mean much anymore since so many drivers have them.Happy chappy0 -
I agree. Take the course.0

I have done one of these courses and was told by the person in charge that there is no need at all to inform anyone. The course once completed wiped out any offence apparently.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I was under the impression most police forces wouldn't do you for anything less than 35mph in a 30 zone to comply with acpo guidelines (speedlimit + 10%+2mph)
That said there only guidelines -may have been done myself last night in merseyside at 8pm by TAllivan on southport roadin bootle, clock said 35mph when I saw it and breaked0
