Not sure they have been a budget airline for a long time, I find BA often as cheap. If you are flying at school holidays, all the airlines pile on the price, this year Easyjet's prices were much lower than Ryanair at the start of the season, they sold well and therefore they had fewer seats to sell at the highest possible price at the last minute.

They have obviously learned their lesson and priced accordingly for next year. Unfortunately you may have limited alternative options but may be worth seeing if charter flights with the likes of Thomson Thomas Cook and Barrhead, who use BA for charters from Scotland have a better offer

The Barrhead BA charters were about £300+ last year.

Have alook at Jet2 - they're coming up cheapest (on Skyscanner) for most dates in July.

Just booked flights for July 2014 LTN to PMI
Same days as last year were coming up at 175 quid each one way ,managed to book midweek to midweek at 70 quid

Noticed though the flight prices are changing all the time
    Have a nice day :)

I've seen it go the other way too this year

Booked NCL > TFS next March for £45
Jet2, Thomsons and TC all wanted ~ £100
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

You are always going to get a kicking flying from Scotland in July. Even Ryanair are +200 hand luggage only
3 hours down to Manchester and you are doing it for half that.

We tend to use Avios for our summer hols these days and Ryanair/jet2/easyjet etc for the out of season breaks

They're not a charity organisation to get you to Majorca, they're a business. If they can get away with charing more for tickets this year they'd be fools not to.

They do seem to be getting more expensive in the school holidays now, I've had some cracking deals with them in the past like £50 return to Milan in August. But they are still very cheap off peak - return to Berlin for £55, return to Tel Aviv for £140.

LTN to PMI Friday 25th July 2014 £200 each
I booked some yesterday for same route 30th July returning 8 days later at £270 for 2 people ,today they are 390 (luckily i have 2 weeks off work so could play around with the dates within that period)
Saturday 26th to Saturday 2nd Aug would have cost me £610

So yes they are getting greedy
    Have a nice day :)

EJ's board have a duty to shareholders not customer's as far as revenue is concerned.
No one is forced to use them, if enough people stop using them, they'll either roll over and die or try to win customers back.
You can't beat the market, all you can do is try to influence it.
