I've been TV-less for about 4 years now.I made the online statement and had a card telling me an Inspector had called and would return through my door a couple of months later.I never did get that call, just a letter reminding me to renew my declaration a couple of years later.
Would I let them in? No,why the hell should I?
Don't miss my TV at all,in fact when I visit my parents the sodding thing is droning away in the corner annoying the hell out of me but I'm not sure they'd survive the trauma of turning the thing off.
TV is not an essential,I read 2-3 books a week as well as leading a full and active life.I did think when I finally got rid of my idiot box that there's plenty of stuff online to keep me occupied,iPlayer,4OD etc but the reality is that I very rarely use any of those either and the longer I've gone without television the harder I find it to passively "sit and watch stuff".

That's what I found. My offer to host Christmas this year was turned down by aged parent on the grounds that I don't have a TV, so I'll take my books when I visit or borrow one.

I do occasionally watch TV, but a couple of pints during a footie match down the local pub becomes a nice little treat. England match on Friday, so I'll need to check it's on.

I complained to Tony Hall at the BBC, who passed the matter on to someone called Pipa Doubtfire....

Pipa Doubtfire [improbable name] is the Head of Revenue Management at the BBC - the queen bee of TV Licensing.
However she said TVL would contact me 2 years later in case the situation changes
This 2 year limit on WOIRA is a creation of the BBC. Under Common Law, you have the right to determine who enters your home indefinitely.
  • TV Tax free for 6 months. 1 gioon did stand at the door for a while, but we did not offer him any advise.

We are currently playing all our music via the OiPod, and have finally reached B and Bach last night. No intrusive oogle box of self pitified non entites pooring their derision into our pad anymore.
  • We haven't had a TV for over 10 years and get letters all the time. We've told them a few times that we don't have a TV but after a few years they start sending letters again and I can't be bothered with it anymore. The letters go in the bin unopened now. We've never been visited.

If someone does visit, say you don't have a TV then shut the door immediately.

If it's just a case of them coming in, seeing no TV and leaving, then I would be perfectly willing to allow them entry.

    I wouldn't let them in.

Doing so, merely gives them more information, allowing them to fabricate a more believable confession statement.

Also, there's no guarantee the person you invite in, has been CRB checked.

The best way to deal with them is to tell them you do not need a licence and then shut the door

IMHO, a better way to deal with them, is to say nothing and shut the door, or, better yet, don't open the door in the first place.
  • That's assuming you know who it is..

Anyway, the letters saying keep this as it tells you what happens in court are very unpleasant, but as they continue to be for The Occupier I'm sure it would make for an interesting case!:D
  • Someone please tell me Pippa Doubtfire is married :D
