British gas have misquoted me and now demand 1300 payment

the point is i cant afford to pay it, recently got the boot!
We can barely afford the new price they are quoting.
Im future i will try to read it, but for now being threatened with being cut off or pay a sum i cant afford looks like they will cut me off. I have written to my mp about it.
I think they would be better off just having a fiver a month to pay it off than nothing, i have suggested this and they are still not happy to accept!
it's not a quote!!!0 -
If you change to a prepayment meter you can pay arrears off at about £16 per month.
Any other arrangement will include advance payment for ongoing usage based on historical usage plus £55 or £110 for arrears (or, it seems, £36 over three). Plus £100 for ongoing useage. If you don't want to commit to paying £140 odd every month (plus up and coming price increases) the only alternative is prepayment meter (but that will take you seven years at the minimum repayment).0 -
Go back to BG and ask them if you can have prepayment meters instead .
I had a similar situation to yours when my gas and electric were "slammed" took months to sort it out and I ended up with a huge bill once sorted -I was offered the choice to pay monthly or have the debt added to my mter which for me was the most painless way to clear the outstanding amount . (didn't take anything like 7 years to pay off though and was about £400 if I remember correctly.
All this nonsense about conspiracy is just silly- especially if your husband really is a gas fitter -did he never suggest you did meter readings? If so I'd be having a serious word with him as he obviously understands how it all works because of his job even if you don't.....or rather didn't ! You;d think someone with an A in Business Studies could have explained all this to you though !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

If they want to only pay the minimum £3.60 per week it will take seven years. They are free to ask for a higher repayment if they like.
I seem to remember they offered me a couple of payment levels -one thing to watch out for is that once it is paid off it continues to "collect the debt" until they reset the meter ...... I rang to find out how much was left and ended up with a nice credit put on the meter as I'd actually finished paying it off some months previous.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

16 pounds a month sounds like something more that I can afford for the moment. i really want to pay my way, but fairly!
if i go bankrupt will the gas debt be wiped off? I have quite significant credit card bills and loans for two cars that I might struggle to pay unless I can find a new job on my last wage ASAP0 -

If you can't find £16 a month for your electric and gas -where are you going to find the £700 odd you'll need to pay the court to go bankrupt ? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If you have loans for two cars and a "bright" OH who works seven days a week fitting boilers perhaps you should get him to pay for his own car ...and if you can't get another job...well your one can be sold-Simples.
(or maybe it'll motivate you into actually bothering to look for another job -as you claim in another thread that you don't feel motivated to rush into job hunting)
Can't decide if you're a troll or a complete loser TBH
If you are genuine it sounds like you and your OH need to talk seriously about money as it appears you are expected to pay for everything including his car repayments ... and all utilities even though you are unemployed....which sounds odd to put it mildly.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

did you not read I said I could pay 16 a month, not the 150 they wanted!
look i had to pay for hubbies car so he could work, was unable to get one with his history and thank god i did as in this recession he is the one winning the bread!
i need my car for the school run or do you think my children should walk 6 miles every day in the wet, cold, dark winter!?0 -

No but then I don't think if you have children you should be contemplating allowing the heat and light to be cut off either (as you said earlier in the thread) ....so I don't think playing the "What about the children" cards is working for you Hun. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Well won't matter which one of you is "Winning the bread" if you go bankrupt as you'll lose the cars and with both of you having wrecked credit histories won't have many options available.....
Is sixteen pounds a month sounding like a better deal yet ?
I don't think it's me with the reading difficulty however dear.....go back and reread what was said about prepayment meters ....and your own comment about wanting to only pay a fiver.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm not contenplating turning off the lights, but that sometimes seams to be the only option open to me!
Will look into this pre pay meter, but looks expensive.
i dont fink they would dare take my cars off me, would mean that the kids dont get educated and hubbie would have to be on the dole!0
