British gas have misquoted me and now demand 1300 payment

That is quite rude to me. All i want is to be treated fairly. This is a free country last time I looked.
All the energy company really does is bill and collect money, it is their fault for not checking the meter in over two years. its not like they have much to do.
So far all I have been offered is 40 good will off the bill and the option of having to pay hundreds a month for the next year! I will be talking to the off people!
It's not rude, it's reality. No, they are only obliged to read the meter every two years. Intermediate reads are your responsibility. As is bothering to read your bills, which would clearly have shown all the readings to be estimated.
Did you never bother to verify those readings against your meter actuals? Did you never wonder why your DD hadn't risen at a time when huge price increases have occurred?
Ofgem don't handle consumer complaints, and the Ombudsman will not be interested until you are deadlocked with your supplier's own complaints procedure. Why do you expect to get more than £40 discount? You have suffered no loss and have enjoyed substantial interest free credit on your actual usage. No free lunch, and no free laptop

What an absolute car crash of a thread.
I maintain that certain life skills (including dealing with all bills adults have to face) should be taught in school.
It could maybe take the place in the curriculum of learning Welsh, which was something nobody really wanted to endure in my school!0 -
Possibly the OP couldn't check their blls because they were in Welsh? No free lunch, and no free laptop

No one can ever read the terms and conditions when they sign up to something, unless they have no life and like reading boring things for hours. If you read their T&Cs you are required to submit two meter readings a year. Sorry but this is totallyyour fault. In two years you will have received multiple estimated bills and could not be bothered to check the readings against you meter and correct their estimate.
Based on the figures posted you have used about £3000 of energy in the last 2 years (£68*24 + £1300) giving an estimated annual bill of £1500. Therefore I would expect them to increase your DD to around £200pm to cover ongoing usage of £125 plus £75 to clear debt. If you dont agree they will almost certainly go down the prepayment meter route.
If I had to read the terms and conditions of everything I would never have time to eat.0 -

I would wager those that do aren't owing their energy company many hundreds of pounds!0 -
gem1798......don't worry, it will all get sorted when they send a meter company round ,accompanied by the police, if necessary, to fit prepayment meters.
They will soon claw back what you owe and the good thing is that you are stuck with them until your balance is under £200 or so.
Then you will have the problem of switching while on prepayment meters.0 -

Crikey.
Energy DD's are not a "quote" that you accept, and then you have some sort of entitlement to use what you want.
They are an instalment to cover the cost of your bills .Anything you use over or under that amount will leave you in debit or credit.
After the 2 yearly meter read by the supplier; you have a responsibility to ensure your payments are covering what you use. £68 pounds a month is about half what the average property consumes.
Did the big word estimated not cause any concern?0
