There were some really cheap city breaks in the Mail yesterday up until March. https://www.dailymail.co.uktravelover0

Funny enough, the last weekend I was there was the world cup finals when Italy won. I'd booked months before though before it was known that Italy would get to the final so didn't pay over the odds
The difference is that the World Cup wasn't being held in Italy but the Six Nations is scheduled many months in advance so flights and hotels for Rome are going to be very expensive that weekend.
Rome is well worth doing - but choose another weekend.0 -
Some good suggestions here so far. Your dates are also my birthday weekend, if you choose Prague make sure you are both OK with extreme cold! We went for my 30th a few years back, and at one point i had on all the clothes I took with me!
Also be aware if you have a veggie in your party food is very limited and difficult to find.
I would recommend Florence for a weekend, you can fly Ryanair to Pisa, then there is a bus to take you to Florence. It's a lovely city. Also we are off to Nice in Feb next year for a weekend, it supposed to be a warmer climate, but not convinced. We have 2 nights in Nice, then will get the bus to Monaco for a night there. Easily done in £500.
We went to Warsaw this March, again very very cold, but more prepared this time. It's a nice city, but a bit limited on the trips ect, however we got ryanair flights for £8 each, so thought "why not?".
Venice could also be an idea, but accommodation is quote pricey there.
Wherever you choose have a fab time.0 -

Another suggestion from me, Barcelona is a really great place for a city break The Ramblas is the main road from the port, and is always full of street entertainers and is quite magical really. Make sure you hold onto your handbag there though.0

Tallin is a cracking place. Very cheap while you're there and much more picturesque than a lot of Eastern European destinations that have chased the "stag do" dollar.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Thanks all, some great suggestions and lots of thinking for me to do. Without being boring, my other option was to do London for the weekend as she's into musicals and 'The West End'
Any advice on London? Cheap but nice places to stay? What to do?0 -

In terms of city breaks, London is one of the most expensive cities in Europe. I could spend a week in Spain for less than 2 days in London.
Whenever I stopover London I just leave the hotel booking until the last minute and then look for a late deal. One thing London isn't short of is hotels so there are always late deals to be had especially, if like me, you aren't fussy and just regard a hotel as somewhere to sleep for a few hours.0 -
London can also be fab, we had a weekend there in September. Look into thinks like the "borris bikes' much cheaper than a tube day ticket. You hire them for £2 a day, and can take a bike from any docking station for up to 30 mins at a time, and dock it somewhere else entirely. We had great fun, but be prepared and have a map of the docks, which we didn't have!
You can visit Harrods, which can keep you amused for an hour or so. Plus we really wanted to see http://www.roofgardens.virgin.com/ which look fab, but are often closed for functions, so call first. They were closed the day we wanted to go. In spring they would be amazing.
Shows wise, if she's not seen it the Bodyguard show is brilliant, and very girlie. But all of the shows are great in London, look out for the half price ticket booth, and maybe book a pre-threatre meal deal somewhere.0
