City Break help

Options
Thinking of taking my girlfriend away for a 'city break' weekend for her birthday starting 14th March and commencing 17th March 2014.

Looking for some help finding something reasonably priced and also advice on where to go?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

I understand that Prague is very cheap and very interesting.

Personally I would prefer Rome or Berlin but they're not the cheapest: just more interesting to me.

Rome would be fantastic Glyn, but don't want to be/can't afford to be spending a fortune.

Where are you travelling from in the UK and what means of transport are you planning to use?

Use one of the cheap deals websites. Last weekend I was in Rome I got a 4 star for £350 per person, including flights from expedia.co.uk

    Worth a go eh?

It would be from the South of England and flying ideally.

    I'd certainly start with expedia.co.uk

I've had a few good weekend deals out of there. Rome's not that expensive once you're there btw. Just be sure you book a hotel within a reasonable walking distance of the city centre. Don't listen to people who tell you to book outside the city centre and use the metro to get into town. You're much better being there in the centre and at this time of the year there should be lots of deals.
  • Istanbul? I love it and still very cheap

Prague can be very cheap as long as you avoid the tourist traps around the main square. Go back a couple of streets and the cost of food and drink falls by half. Hotels are reasonable and the public transport system is excellent. Czech food may not win any international awards but it is very filling - it's potatoes and dumplings with everything.

I'd say Prague is ideal for 3 nights. You'll spend the first evening getting lost in the maze of streets in the Old Town and there's plenty to keep you occupied for 2 full days and evenings.
