Just saw some fantastic deals for Rome city centre on expedia.co.uk

Do a search and see what I mean.

    Hi
What is your budget? - difficult to know just by reasonably priced

Well I was thinking £500 for the two of us.

Not sure if that is too little or not?

That's a reasonable budget for flights and 2-3 nights in a mid range hotel as long as your spending money is on top of that.

If you are near Heathrow or Gatwick, have a look at the BA city break packages at http://www.britishairways.com/travel/city-breaks/public/en_gb where you can get some surprisingly good deals.

Also, spend some time playing around with the hotel + flight options on sites such as Expedia.

I understand that Prague is very cheap and very interesting.

Personally I would prefer Rome or Berlin but they're not the cheapest: just more interesting to me.
Berlin isn't expensive, I was there a few months ago, return flights on Easyjet for around £55 and hotel (which was well rated, and very good) at EUR40 a night inc breakfast. I was on my own, I think a double room was about EUR55. Food was reasonably cheap too, and a lot of the touristy stuff is free.
  • Krakow is brill, very cheap too
  • If you fancy a bit of wild Spanish firework action, you have picked dates on which Fallas falls in Valencia. It will be busy and may not work for you're budget but if you can its a great experience. Looks like you will miss the final burning is on the 19th, but you will see lots of fireworks, street parties and events up until the 17th.

It's more expensive than Prague. I thought Rome the better idea because it's got a more romantic atmosphere than Berlin.
  • Rome would be very good that weekend but its the Six Nations so hotels will be busy & expensive

Funny enough, the last weekend I was there was the world cup finals when Italy won. I'd booked months before though before it was known that Italy would get to the final so didn't pay over the odds.

I'm not a football fan but I have to say it was interesting to see the Italian reaction to the win.

As an alternative to Rome, Sorrento, much further south, is a romantic place to take the other half.
