Knitting question - I have a 4mm hoop how different is that from knitting with size 10 needles - I need a very basic yes just do it or no it will be a disaster answer. It is to attempt to knit a teddy for a charity project from MF3.

4mm are number 8 needles.. if you are not knitting in the round then you may as well just use the straight needles. 3.25mm is the equivalent to size 10. It is possible to use the circular needles as straight ones.. yes you can do it and it will not be a disaster :D

:rotfl::rotfl:So I am not the ony one to do that! SW3 kept slamming her door so I told her, do it again and I'll take it off. She did so I did :D she was mortified. The next morning I put it back with the promise that it would be off for a week if she did it again lol needless to say it has not been removed since.

Some December shopping done online but not a lot else :o

I haven't replaced their door.. 4 years with no door.. they don't learn quickly.

I'm just doing chrimboloid spending too !!
by hoop im assuming you mean the two pointy needle bits on the end of a plastic piece usually used for knitting in the round - something ive never mastered so cant use them

it would come up bigger so you'd need to allow more wool 4mm is the same as an old size 8 so you'd really need 3.25mm to be the same size
but as long as you are passing the stitches back and forth from one side of the hoop to the other i would think it would work fine

i think pigpens the best one to ask

I've only just mastered them.. they are quite simple really.. My next challenge is crochet.. again...

Pixie fed.. best hang out the washing it looks like rain might be upon us later.

    I'm here, just about :(
By some miracle I did manage to get to sleep last night but not very well, woke up totally shattered.
I've dropped DD1 to her college work placement, come home put the DW on and watched "The hairy bikers meals on wheels" then I started to feel a headache coming on and now the nausea has hit :( I've taken some tablets, which I hate doing. I'm going to just rest up on the hope of feeling better quickly as after DD1 finishes her placement I have to drive her to have a fitting for get new drumming tunic.
As she's very petite the tunic they got for her needs altering a lot.
Hopefully I'll feel better by lunch so I can get some jobs done . . .

im left handed and knit in a really [STRIKE]weird [/STRIKE]unusual way. i cant hold the right needle its sort of wedged into my hip so its really hard for me to use npns (i ended up stabbing myself:o) one day i will persevere and crack it. crocheting another one i was doing some at the martial arts club the other week along side a lady who was also crocheting. in the end she put hers away and said the way i did it was too distracting as i was going the opposite way round to her. it wasn't like i was waving it over my head shouting look at the freak trying to crochet different to you all :rotfl:

The stuff i do looks alright when its done so im happy with that

    Morning everyone,
No work today for me so I decided to make a cake, victoria sponge, which smells lovely but is wonky as I slammed the oven door! Bread maker is on for first time in ages so hopefully I've remembered how to do that and I peeled and out apples on for crumbles, sat having a coffee and forgot they were on, so looks like I have made apple sauce instead:rotfl:
So maybe not the best morning. Been beating away at the BD and then a book has just arrived in the post which I won off Goodreads so that has helped lift me a bit, I'm sorry I'm off loading but typing it on here helps too.

Regarding knitting with circular needles, it can be a PITA to begin with but IMHO it's worth persevering. I'm not left handed but similar to Mrs M, when I learned to knit it was on straight needles and I kept the right needle wedged under my arm, so moving to circs was very tricky, I felt as though I wasn't in control if the needles at all as I had to "drop" the right hand one to wrap the yarn for each stitch.

In the end I completely changed my knitting style from English/thrown (which means holding the working yarn and wrapping with your right hand) to continental (working yarn in left hand). Rather than wrap I now sort of "scoop" the yarn from the tip of my left index finger. I can't explain it any better than that! It took a while to get my techinque right and even longer to work to an even tension but now I'm there I can knit a LOT faster (when I bother to pick up my projects :rotfl:). I exclusively use circs now, whether working in the round or flat, because straight needles just feel too long and unwieldy.

HTH but I've probably just muddied the waters even more :o

    Afternoon everyone :hello:

I have been a busyish bee this AM. Thus far:
    • Wiped kitchen surfaces
    • Cleaned small appliances
    • Polished the bin (stainless steel, hate it!)
    • Made the sink shiny
    • Degunked the overflow (utterly gross :boke: )
    • Swept the floor and steam mopped
    • Cleared the surface under the wall units which was full of DH's carp
    • Loaded the WM ready for my stuff when I have a shower this afternoon
    • S&Sed the bathroom
    • Bleached the loo
    Still to do:
    • Make up the girls' beds
    • Clean our bedroom window
    • Clear out my email inbox
    • Set up a DD for my CC
    • Apply online for C0-0p and Ice1and reward cards
    • Vacuum the LR, boys' room and both halls
    • Hang up the washing once it's done
I did indeed go to Stap1es first thing and bought myself a new note book and some pretty pens :D so I am primed and ready for lists aplenty. I made a start on a rough draft of my Toot's list but I need to decide how detailed I want it to be; will hide this list from DH as he will be scared off for life I think

    Enjoy your jack russels Lamewolf.

Hello Bonnie you must be busy. I hope all is well.

Well done for doing your Christmas cake Mrs MP, do you use a particular recipe? I'm looking for recommendations.

WM x 2, 2 x HHI. Kitchen floor disinfected because of mouse entrails lovingly left by our very proud cat. She yelled her head off at 5.30am and DS2 trod in it as he was first downstairs this morning.

Bank account opened to save for our silver wedding celebrations which will coincide with the end of the mortgage. My gentle persuasion has worked on DH.

DS1 has 2 job interviews today. If he gets one it will be like a big lottery win for me.
