I just feel guilty that I don't see them as often as they want me too, but I also feel guilty because I feel like I should want to see them more than I do, but I just don't. Then again, when it comes to friendships I've always made it a habit to spend my time with people I actually like and not spend my time with people that I don't like just for the sake of it. So maybe the same applies to my family?

I have highlighted that phrase, because it sums up my feelings about my dad and sis. When we do talk/see them it is such an unrewarding experience, where we find ourselves being criticised and sometimes mocked by them.
You can choose your friends, but you cannot choose your relations - so true.

I am in my 40's with teenage kids. This year I bought a house with my widowed Mum, so us three generations live together.
It's the most perfect marriage style arrangement ever. Mum is like my wife, but I'm not forced to pretend I fancy her permanently or risk damaging her fragile ego.
I don't have to lie back and think of England twice a week.
But she is my best friend, cooks amazing food and the kids adore her.

I'm happier than I thought I could be. She is also happy and healthy - she enjoys the liveliness, the conversation, the "feeling useful", the getting out and about every day (she can't drive) and the company.

    Long may it continue :T

I see my MIL at least once a week as she lives 2 minutes away from us, my own mum I see once every 1-2 weeks on average. My sister I see whenever she's available (she lives 7 hours away) and I see my brother maybe once a month. My SIL is the same, maybe once a month. That's my entire family! The rest of them are sadly pushing up daisies.

Parents - once a week, only about a 40min drive awayOH parents - He sees his mum every other week but is soon to become less and I see her maybe once a month. His dad he sees twice a week and I only see now and then, no regular time scale.
Grandparents - I have none and he does but doesn't really bother with them.
Siblings - I have none and he sees his brother everyday (I see him once maybe twice a week) and his sister every few months.
