At least they were nicely boxed! I've won a few mugs that have turned up in pieces but was not surprised when they had been sent in one of those envelopes with a thin bubble wrap lining !!! That puts me off companies - it is like they don't care!

On a positive note, I have had companies send the simplist of prizes in the most beautiful of gift wrapping - bows, glitter - etc - now those companies do impress me and I would purchase from them or recommend them to friends!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

I've had lots and lots of lovely wins over the years, never really had any that I've thought were rubbish, I've had a couple where I thought the service from the PR company etc was a little lacking but nevermind x
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I have had 2 disappointing prizes from the same place.

I used to enter competitions on The Sun Online when it was still free. The first prize about 6 years ago was a Fruit Machine. Always wanted one but my joy was short lived when it turned up, lets just say it clearly wasn't new....I guessed it was about 5-7 years old.

When I contacted The Sun (they had an email for problems with prizes) they quickly dropped any responsibility and said they would pass my problem onto the company running the competition, which if I remember correctly was Nicorette and they were quick to get in touch and try and palm me off with excuses.

They arranged for the machine supplier to contact me to discuss options to rectify the situation but when I made it clear I wanted a new one we run into a stumbling block. Basically, Nicorette had specifically ordered a refurbished model not a new one so could only give me a new one if they agreed.........they didn't. I did find out on this call that the refurbs were about £300-500 and new ones were nearer £2000.....explained alot.

After a lot of aggro I got £750 Currys voucher.

A few years later I won a top of the range Indesit Fridge Freezer and a case of beer. But when it arrived it was clearly a reject model as it was covered in scratches and had feet missing.......I love The Sun :T
  • My girlfriend won a "Makeup hamper worth over £200!"

Turned out to be a cheap bottle of nail varnish and mascara wrapped in some paper:rotfl:

I've only ever won one competition. It was through the BBC, and it was a copy of Dreamcatcher on DVD. As a Stephen King fan I was really happy...until I watched it!

    Too true!!

When the girls were first born I won a comp for a twenty pound voucher with this fb company that did baby gros etc and there were two lovely outfits I really wanted but when the voucher came it said that the voucher could not be used on orders worth less than a hundred pound!
Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!

Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
    Wishing all a little luck:beer:

The book is soooo much better. The film was dire!

  • That voucher was diabolical kzmicallef!
As for hampers and 'mixed lot' prizes I think that a lot of the time the PR company staff help themselves to bits and pieces, as long as there is something to put in the post. I once chased up a hamper competition for 3 months and when my £50 worth arrived it added up to £8.89 going by local supermarket prices. It is not really worth complaining to the PR companies because
    A Many couldn't care less
B Not a good idea to make your name stand out when these people deal with competitions every day, might be easy to lose out in future if your name was recognised.
I am not saying that they are all sharks, not at all, but there are probably a cross section of less than lovelies who work in the industry.
Having said that I have dealt with some really delightful people and have now learned to take valuations with a pinch of salt.

That is terrible! Sounds like it wasn't even worth £20.00!

:eek: Muddy wellies!!! OMG I cannot believe a company do that! I bet they sent the over-sized t-shirt to you out of spite! Glad you don't have anything to do with them! Maybe we should start a thread the 'rate or slate' companies with regard to their prizes!

I totally think we should do that - I've had some amazing experiences with PR companies, as well as some bad!

I feel sorry for people that have wanted something and it's not turned out to be what they had hoped :(
