I def would know, I live in a teeny one bed flat... Plus the lock on my bathroom door is broken haha.

But seriously?! You can tell. I've never done that at someone else's house, ever!

    I don't know what difference a lock makes. :p

I think some people's bowel proficiency hasn't progressed much beyond toddler stage. A small child doesn't have much warning that they need to go but an adult with normal bowel functionality can most certainly 'train' themselves to go at home at fairly regular times. So barring a stomach bug (in which case you shouldn't be out visiting other people) or IBS/Crohns, I've never understood it when people say 'when you've got to go, you've got to go'.

If you're staying overnight with people, then you probably will need to go at some point but I'd find it a bit much if they were just popping by for a visit.

It also annoys me when people at work have gone for a poo as soon as they arrive, stinking the place out, I don't need that to wake me up, coffee does that! Also, surely it would be better to go before showering/bathing in the morning?

I disagree, you might be able to train yourself to go at certain times but not everyone can do. Also what if you are leaving for work each day at say 6am and do a full day at work and then have a long journey home. It would be hard to wait all day until you got home.
People cant help needing to go and its better them using the loo than pooing in their pants or being ill all day. If you have a guest who leaves the bathroom in a mess, theres nothing wrong with asking them to ensure they spray round and open the window if needed. Most people will do this anyway.
At work there really needs to be toilets away from the main area for people needing to poo. Employers should provide decent toilets with windows and air freshner as well. Its not nice for anyone to have to do that at work or for other people to have to smell it.Places where I've worked tended to be big buildings with various loos and people used to find a secluded one if they needed to do that.
I personally wouldnt have a number 2 at a friends house, I would go home before I did that.

Some people just cannot help when then need to go!!

I hate going at other peoples houses and in public loos but being an IBS suffered whose toilet habits are made even less predictable since having her gallbladder removed- if I have to go, I have to go. I often feel so embarassed by this but I always open a window and spray and make sure its as clean as I found it.

    I'm with you Yumyums.

I'd really prefer people didn't poop in my house. I don't monitor it but I am not a fan of bodily smells. I hate public toilets, too.

My main bathroom is windowless, my OH isn't allowed to poop in there. He takes protein supplements, lots of them, and they produce a "unique" aroma. He likes to announce that he is going to "expel a vile demon" then goes down to the basement loo shutting the door behind him. His father was made to do the same by my MIL, so I get her full support.

I don't monitor it, but when they are so openly proud of their efforts, so much so that the airways of women and babies aren't safe, they can stay elsewhere. I don't run around after them to have my home treated like that.

Thankfully I don't know any people who behave like that.

I also get annoyed when I use the loo I. Someone else's house and they've put their toilet roll on the holder the 'wrong' way round. I know, I know...

Now this I can relate to. I always change it, do you?

I hadn't considered IBS. That must be awkward and I wouldn't want to think of anyone being embarrassed by their condition. For an adult without bowel problems though surely it's not too hard to time your toilet needs around a one hour visit to someone's house!

I dread to think what would happen if somebody burped in some people's houses

Bodily functions is something we all have, and we can't live without them :p

I had DH, his 3 brothers and father here last year. We have 4 loos and not one was safe. It actually made me want to burn the house down!!!!

Maybe you should allocate a men's and a women's toilet? Put a 'Ladies' or 'Gents' sign on the toilet doors. It'd at least keep the dreadfulness to one toilet and make sure you and the other non-smelly bathroom users have a nice loo to yourselves :rotfl:

It is not always possible to train one's bowels to go at a certain time. I am an anxiety sufferer and as anyone with that condition will verify, it can play havoc with your bowels. There's also things like food intolerances that can make you need the toilet in a hurry.

On a thread full of very weird people with massive hang ups, this is the wierdest and most disturbing post of all

Not only does this poster apparently forbid her husband from using the toilet IN HIS OWN HOUSE but apparently the poor man's mother was exactly the same with his father. Presumably though both the OP and her mother in law were allowed to use their own toilets because their poo didn't smell!

I would seriously think twice about marrying anyone who tried to impose this kind of condition on me, and if it was raised after marriage, I would consider divorce. It is controlling and humiliating behaviour of the most extreme kind.

As for all those who consider only their own bowel habits to be "normal", words fail me. It is no more healthy to open your bowels once a day and be able to train yourself to do so before your daily shower, than it is to open your bowels several times a day, or even only two or three times a week. All of these are considered normal bowel habits

    http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer-help/coping-with-cancer/coping-physically/bowel/about-the-bowel

so if you do only poo once a day, that is purely coincidental and not a sign that you are some form of superior being.

It has genuinely never crossed my mind before today that anyone would care what you needed their loo for, provided you left it in the same condition you found it in. Some people really need to get a grip!
