How to turn down a date?

Why not be honest and say that 'I think of you as a friend - in a sisterly sort of way - can we keep the relationship as it is please?'0

He said he understands. I doubt it'll be a problem, he's too nice to be 'funny' about it as long as he's not awkward or embarrassed next time I see him. I will just be normal with him.0

Wow you are about to crush his confidence, self esteem and life worth. What makes me laugh is that I see so many couples that really don't match on looks or personality. But they work. If you don't like him on personality say so.I would much prefer if a girl said No. So i know where I was and would move on. Although a change of circumstance night help. I As a bloke if a girl said NO i would take it as a NO. Thats it anything else is unacceptable.0

Really? I've ruined his life by turning down a date? Gosh, I have that much power?
I think you're being a bit over the top here. He asked me out for dinner, I said I was busy. He asked again for another night and I said thank you but I wouldn't want to mislead him and I wasn't looking for anything more than friendship. I also apologised if I'd misunderstood his intent in asking me out for dinner. His reply was "I understand. Good luck for tomorrow". (I'm running a race).
It's true, I do only want to be his friend and surely it's kinder than saying you're a lovely bloke but I find you incredibly unattractive, which is also the truth? Surely that would be far more likely to 'crush his confidence, self esteem and life worth'?0 -

"Aww thanks, that's really sweet of you, but I see you as a friend, not of anything more. I hope that can continue."0
