Jamie does have a valid point here though.

I learn something new every day.

So the UK speed limits are government propaganda.

    What anarchist crap is this?

If someone comes on to a public forum and in their first post freely admits to committing a Road Traffic Offence, how do they expect others to react?

I see the 'holier than thou brigade' are out in force on this thread, we all exceed the posted speed limit at one time or another and anyone who says they don't is a liar.

Always interesting in these thread to see how long the "think about the children" post takes to arrive.

Quite quick in this one I think. :D

Nothing wrong with a Rover 45 :p had a couple and have never smoked a pipe or worn a trilby or read the Daily Mail  (although I did work for Rover so got them on a really good "just add fuel" type of scheme :p)

Hey never called my self holier than thou! far from it I think most posts where saying you speed then take the consequences. I know from my post at least I admitted my own personal views on motorways was different but around town sorry no!.

I do live on the main drag to the beach, most drivers do not know that even thought the houses do not start for some time there is a school to the other side. lots and lots of beautiful primary school children.

Do you know how many accidents?

The difference between 30 and 34 is a big difference to a child's head! How do I know? My OH and I had the terrible fortune to run a child over.

He was doing 25 in a 30 zone going around a bend close to a park. A child ran out in front of parked cars.

If you have ever seen a child's face on your windscreen you would not think twice about condoning speeding a built up area.

Thank god in our case the child was ok, but another couple of miles and perhaps not. instead of my OH despite being told by everyone it was not his fault the mother of child included not wanting to drive again for over year it could of been life changing.

Holier than thou no. Speaking from experience yes!

Not everything is about the government, instead it is about people like you and I taking responsibly for our actions no matter what they are.

OP I do not think anyone is trying to be harsh just trying to point of the facts.

Hey I have been caught we all have, in my case twice from the same camera in 1998 two days running. On my way out of tunnel where it goes from 30 - 40 then 50 and then straight to the motorway. Mine was 58 in a 50 zone just before the motorway limits come into force so no one is perfect. But you just have to take it on the chin. If you get a ticket accept it and learn from it.

Im not saying anyone on here is harsh. I knew there would be people who would say do the crime do the time (so to speak).

My issue is that to sit waiting at the spot the speed limit drops especially when its the end of the motorway its a little sneaky.

If you could actually see the road, the motorway hasnt really finished as such, they have just imposed the 40mph limit sooner rather than later.

Hey ho, i suppose im partly annoyed at myself for something which was easily avoidable but annoyed at them waiting in a place that was right on the cross over in a place its not going to make a difference whether it was 40 or 50mph... and again yes thats my opinion but there are no houses/shops/buildings in a distance that would take me a good 5 minutes to walk to.

ACG - you are being ridiculous!

Not going to make any difference???????

I don't agree with the positioning of many of the speed limit placements around where I live.

But does that mean that I'm above the law and free to ignore them if I feel that they are wrong, then slow down when and where I think it's correct to do so?

Then to cap it all come on a forum seeking sympathy and help to avoid the penalty when I'm caught out.

The camera van has actually done what it set out to do - raise awareness that speed limits are to be respected.

Why not write to your local newspaper, radio station, local councillors and MP to get the signs changed.

Be interesting to hear how much support you get.

Alternatively, to keep the anarchists happy, go onto pistoheads and ask how to get off speeding fines.

A guy was recently boasting about only getting a fine for doing 126mph on the A46. Most people felt that was excessive, but some, like Johno100 on here, were cheering him on for beating the system.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

The camera van has actually done what it set out to do - [STRIKE]raise awareness that speed limits are to be respected[/STRIKE] scam a few motorists for £60, and provide employment for retired ex-coppers, including the one whose company import the LTi 20:20 Laser devices from the US, where many States have banned them due to their questionable accuracy.

But, the UK Home Office classes them as "type approved", so that's all right then.
