you might just be offered a speed awareness course... the tea and biscuits are free (I understand) and run out at about the same cost as the fixed penalty ticket - had you had one.

Do you reckon they will let me take £60-80 worth of biscuits?
I don't think he meant the tea and biscuits would run out after you'd had £60-£80 worth. I think he meant the speed awareness course would "run out at about" (i.e. "would cost about") £60-£80.

I know i was in the wrong which i fully admit, but i was slowing down. The roads were quiet it was daylight and no rain.
No houses for quite some distance and even if there were the kid would have had to cross a motorway exit road and walk down the dual carriageway to get to where the van was.... not very likely.

Im all for cameras but if the general consensus is that there is some lee way from the 40mph and i was above that then fair enough i cant really argue. But i still think where they were parked is poor. Atleast give people the opportunity to slow down even if it takes them a few yards beyond the sign (thats my thought on it anyway).

I knew i would get people saying im in the wrong and i accept that. I just think its a little bit on the harsh side how they went about it.

Since you were the first person to say that you were in the wrong, others were agreeing with you.

Just because something is unlikely, kid running out in front of you, does not mean that it is not possible.

As has been said you might get away with it, but slow down sooner drive at the legal limit and all will be well.

What utter rubbish - your thoughts are wrong - the opportunity to slow down is before the 40mph signs - not after them.

If we changed the limits to have say a 200metre zone at 45mph before the 40 would that change anything? I think not, as folks who think like you would still not lift off for the 45mph.

Being a 'little bit over the limit' is still over the limit.

Just like you can't be a 'little bit pregnant' or a 'little bit dead' - I'm afraid it's all or nothing.

The only lee way is 4mph to allow for inaccurate speedos. The limit from the 40mph sign onwards is 40mph. So you should plan ahead and slow down in advance of the sign. If you didn't notice the sign in time, then you weren't paying due care and attention. So there is no excuse.

I see the 'holier than thou brigade' are out in force on this thread, we all exceed the posted speed limit at one time or another and anyone who says they don't is a liar.

I expected to get shot down, my skin is thick enough to handle it.

My issue isnt so much that i was caught. I think its more the fact that they waited right on the line of where it dropped.

I don't think anyone has said that they don't ever break the speed limit have they?? All we are saying is that if you do, and you get caught, then you are bang to rights, and should stop whinging about it.

Yes, here they all are, showing their naive belief in the government propaganda. No doubt these are the same people you see on motorways, hogging the middle lane at an indicated 70 but actual 67mph, wearing a trilby hat with pipe clenched firmly between teeth in their Rover 45, copy of Daily Mail on back seat.

If challenged about their driving they will say, in a John Major type voice, "I'm driving at the speed limit, so there's no reason for anyone to overtake".

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

That just shows how wrong you are. :rotfl:

So what government propaganda would that be??
