RCVS do not deal with negligence. They have made this very clear to me.
I dont know who at the RCVS told you that, but this will be one of the things the RCVS will look at, because if a vet is negligent on a regular basis then i dare say they will face a RCVS board

    Principles of practice

Veterinary surgeons seek to ensure the health and welfare of animals committed to their care and to fulfil their professional responsibilities, by maintaining five principles of practice:
    1. Professional competence
    2. Honesty and integrity
    3. Independence and impartiality
    4. Client confidentiality and trust
    5. Professional accountability
The RCVS Code of Professional Conduct and supporting guidance should be considered in the context of the five principles of practice.
negligence would be covered in point 1

so the RCVS has investigated using their principles and found no wrong doing on the vets part.

I don't think money has been mentioned recently, why are you now bringing it up yourself?

I think the OP was replying to Hollydays comment that it could bankrupt her.

OP said 'it's not about money I gain (being refunded)' etc?

My head banging sign in my post was not criticising you, but how you must feel.

I'll ask again....14 means what exactly?

14 platelets count means that my dog's blood had no ability to clot (normal count is 150-200). Even the slightest wound would make him bleed to death.

I will post some quotes from RCVS letters at some point (very busy today) this will make it easier to understand how they deal with such matters

The fact is they will investigate using their set principles that all vets have to follow, they cant investigate using any other methods/principles as it would be unfair on the vets.

Would that not indicate the dog was seriously ill even before the surgery?

Fact is, none of us here have spent 7 years qualifying as a vet so do not have the authority to comment on canine physiology. There may well be vets signed up here, but they aren't going to give a public opinion without a full case review, opportunity to examine, etc (or they're mass if they do).

As such, negligent or not, this is over. It was your mother's dog then you had it for another 7 years as I read it, so it's at least 7 possibly much older small dog - the breed have an expected ~10-15 year lifespan, and that's for a healthy specimen (which this one can't have been to have lower biological indicators).

It's very sad. It's not coming back no matter what you do. Young vet is probably shocked and upset by this also. They'll have had a stern dressing down. They will be paranoid about similar checks in the future, the death and RCVS complaint were not in vain. Grieve and let go. You clearly love animals, so it's time to share that love with living ones who need it. It's the kindest tribute you can pay to your lost friend to help others.

It is no about money I gain or loose it is about principle.

Unfortunately when people start taking decisions solely on principle, too often it means common sense and perspective goes out of the window.

Now you've mentioned legal action there's no chance of the vet ever admitting being sorry, let alone admitting any of their decisions may have been wrong.
