How many people go and buy a phone because it runs android?
Most people use it because their cheap piece of crap phone came with it. Those that do get it on purpose are generally technical enough to use it well, and spend money on a good bit of hardware.
Isn't it obvious? Just look at this thread as case in point.0 -
If you have never received mms messages properly on this phone, you may need to ask your service provider for some settings.0

And are not stupid enough to pay for fruity overpriced fads, unlike some who are and offer no advice whatsoever to help the OP.How many people go and buy a phone because it runs android?

It is in the manual, someone even linked you to the manual and told you which pages to look at which gives the same steps as the ones you're saying now work. I never assumed you could open the app (nor did anyone else from what I can see), you don't need to when you go through the Play Store or the application manager - if you go through the Play store and open the listing for it, you get the option to open (or update) or uninstall.

As mentioned above, instructions to uninstall applications are in the User Guide.
On page 172 you will find:Uninstalling third-party applications
1. From the Home screen, press [the three bar symbol], and then tap Settings.
2. Tap Applications > Manage applications.
3. On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you want to uninstall.
4. Tap Uninstall.
But of course it is much easer to ask on a forum.
