There are too many posh people on this site with their egg slicers and Darth Vader tins. What do they know about poverty!Je suis sabot...0

No....don't get p***ed off, agree with them.
You ARE lucky. You're lucky you were born with a good dose of common sense and a good understanding of what's important and lasting in life and what's not.
So the next time they annoy you, just tell them you know you're lucky and why.:D
But need to ask why you feel p'ed off? It's not as if you envy them, is it? You've done what they've not managed, even on a higher pay scale. Just enjoy what you have for yourselves. Sod them. (EDIT) And their Darth Vader shaped mozerella/egg slicing cake tin.0 -

:rotfl:
Oh you really haven't a clue.
My financial tales of woe would fill a book. I talk about everything else on MSE except the state of my finances. Honestly I could 'see' you a debt diary and raise you 6 more.:rotfl:
My egg slicer is the only thing that keeps me sane.:D

It's not just Brits who do this...I have a lot of American friends, and one had been complaining to me that she was so broke she had no money to pay for her medication (I know for a fact she is not well off - not entirely her own fault). I'm pretty poor myself, but sent her some money to help her pay for her meds, at least in the short term, and put some food on the table for her and her kids.
Not long after she posted a picture on facebook of what had to be at least a relatively new (if not brand) new handgun (I love her to death, but she's a Southern girl, republican and very much into her guns...it's a miracle we're friends, really seeing as how I am a liberal who hates guns! haha).
Not only did she mention that this was one of multiple guns she owned, but it was obviously a very expensive one - worth hundreds of dollars at least. So why in god's name did she not think to sell the bl**dy gun to pay for food/meds? I didn't say anything to her at the time, but I made a decision then and there that I am never sending her more money. If she can afford to blow hundreds of dollars on a sodding gun, then I have no sympathy.0 -
I wonder if half of my family are your friends.
Everytime i mention something i have just bought or just about to buy i get "how can you afford that".
Its getting rather annoying. It mostly washes over my head or the comment goes in one ear and out the other, But my wife gets really aggravated by the comments. Her family also come out with the same comments.
Its simple... I stopped spending most of my money on new/newer cars. I pay for the tax and insurance in one go which saves money.
All bills that save money by paying in one go are now paid like that. Any that dont get put in to a savings account that earns about 1p now.
If i have £10 in my pocket and just enough fuel to last until payday i dont drive around at 2am wasting it whilst looking for a pizza shop that's open.
Not hinting at my sister or anything... Who borrows money from mum or dad and 10 minutes later is spending it on a takeaway.
Our rules are simple now. No more credit.. We have ££ and we make sure we spend less than that.
I have no jealousy for what others do or do not have. Your life your money enjoy it as you please.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
so your a saver and ur friends have congratulated u on ur homeownership and u spin it back on them saying 'but u own more than me' and blah blah.
do you know the ins and outs of their expenses?
ppl always assume that coz u earn xxx amount, then ur 'rich rich rich'.
I dont understand ur beef with your friends.
if u were really their friend u wouldnt be rubbishing them so much. if they want to fritter away on holidays and such then so be it, maybe theyre happy that way. its not like they said anything bad about you.0 -

Comedy gold.
Nobody is objecting to how others choose to live, but to the fact that the profligate ones think more prudent people are in some way blessed or lucky.Je suis sabot...0 -

I completely sympathise with you! I was about to come on here and start my own rant about exactly the same thing - people complaining I 'have more money' because I've managed to save £10k in 2.5 years on a barely-above-minimum-wage job! These are the same people who earn twice as much as me (at least), drive a new car every year, go on a holiday or two every year, had mummy and daddy pay for college and uni (and get regular handouts from them), go out every weekend drinking, and have the latest gadgets and fashion! Aaaaaargh!
I was moaned at by one of the above individuals this week because I didn't want to waste £30 travelling to London in order to spend the weekend getting drunk (have no idea how much the actual weekend would have cost once I arrived, but the hotel she wanted to book was £120 to start with). I was described as 'tight', 'boring', 'stuck up', 'may as well be dead', 'weird' and 'cheap' in less than five minutes!
I've been asked several times by different people why I don't 'get a decent phone' (mine is 8 years old, does everything I need and never breaks), why if 'I have loads of spare money' I don't come out clubbing every weekend (I hate drinking... regardless of cost), why I take public transport instead of buying a car (works out cheaper, plus we have no room outside the flat for another car), etc, etc.
I don't have rich parents and I realise that if I want to get out of the horrible renting situation I'm in (another story), then I have to save like a crazy person and adjust my lifestyle accordingly until I reach my goal. No one else is going to help me. It gets really annoying having to justify my decisions all the time. I don't comment when they come in hungover on Monday mornings and take weeks off to fly to Ibiza or wherever. They want to party. I want a home. Why can't other people just accept that?
Keep up the good work and don't let them get you down!Savings: £60,029.70 (+ I don't know how much BTC/ETH)
