You keep saying that you've paid into the system then admit that you rioted rather than pay the 'poll tax', sorry but any sympathy I had for you has gone. I didn't agree with it but what would happen if we all decided not to pay taxes.
The care home I have known well made no difference whether residents were self-funding or not and my relative's care was no different when she became funded by the local authority after her money diminished.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you. However that isn't the situation we currently have and it's very unlikely to change for the better before you retire.0 -

we rioted over the poll tax to kick it into touch if Maggie had been allowed to get away with it goodness help, as it was our stand made the changes so it was bearable and more just, I take it you supported the poll tax as it was0 -
I am stopped around £700 per month from my wages (tax, NI, pension and union fees). Even if the whole amount went towards my health care, my children's schooling and their healthcare until they are no longer my responsibility, I have taken out more than I have paid in. Add in care needed when I'm older and my monthly stoppages would cover 1 weeks care. Hmm. Makes you think doesn't it?
Nowadays, it is more of a need to have care homes as women are working so are less able to become carers. We're more geographically mobile too so are more likely to live a long distance from relatives.
It's just one of those things unfortunately, if you want guarantees, you will have to dip your hand into your own pocket.
good example of why the government allocation of the budget to health care needs reviewing we should pay less in overseas aid and tax breaks for the rich and look after the elderly when it matters, oh dear Im getting political now, didnt want to0 -

Could you quote an actual insult on this thread? Or even an unwarranted comment? I have seen a lot of comments and posts which disagree with your views but nothing personally abusive that I can recall. We are allowed to have a different outlook on life, you know, and also to uphold what is currently the law of the land, and expect others to do so too.0 -

No I didn't support the poll tax and had no problem with people campaigning against it but rioting is for me never an acceptable way to behave. here in Scotland it started a year early.spaniel_dog wrote: »not really but because private pension pay tax on all of it
That's not correct though. Whatever the source of income everyone has a tax-free allowance.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
