I don't dispute that ... much. I'm just saying they can't win either way. I suppose the only way to keep everyone happy would be to stay up and move them all at midnight. But I don't think that's going to happen ;)

I know there will always be people who want the board tidy and ordered, but it has to be logical and moving them before end date compers have entered is just silly.

It's been said before, it's less irritating to have a few that haven't been moved (they don't necessarily affect people that much, especially those who are always up to date) than move them when people are in a last minute rush to enter and can't find them so easily. Otherwise where does it stop, BG going on holiday so tidies up a week in advance..

They don't have to be moved at or just after midnight though there are probably some people who would be willing to be a BG and do that, if people did want that.

Now then, this may well be me completely missing the obvious, but I just wondered, what would happen if we did away with GO ? What if they just stayed on one board, dropping further down the list as it grew. I guess this would be harder on newbies, knowing where to start from, but perhaps there is a way to get around that? Like, instead of spending time expiring and moving dead comps to GO, what if instead every day, someone linked to the oldest live comp, and newbies who wanted to work through the list were encouraged to start from there?

  • I don't really understand the point of GO either, but I'm glad of what we've got cos I'm mindful that this isn't a dedicated comping forum, this is MSE and the comping area is just a small part of it :)

I guess it would make it difficult to search ie for comps ending on set days??

I think we do need the GO section I think the board would get too complicated without it - esp. for comps which end early etc... and I generally think the boards work very well the way they are.

However, while I accept that comps might be moved to GO on the day they finish by the Board Guides [it's in the comping guide - I trust the comping guide!]. I do accept it - but have to say don't like the idea of live comps being moved to GO.

I'd rather they stay on the board till they've finished (yes I know we can search etc... but I have to say if I search and see a comp in GO before it's closing date my assumption is that it's finished early).

I completely understand about BG's being volunteers etc... but think it would be better for them to hang around for a couple of days extra than be removed early. Plus with the thread running about tidying up the board - there seems to be enough people more than happy to go through and press expired once comps are over - so even if a board guide doesn't have a chance to remove the expired comps they are rarely on the board for more than 24hrs after they've expired anyway.

[However, unfortunately as others have said you're never going to please everyone but just thought I'd put my two penn'orth worth in]

I totally agree that live comps should stay on the main board until they expire :) and I've been trying to move expired comps to GO the day after they expire as often as I can,
yesterday while grouping expired comps to move to GO I managed to accidentally move 29/09 over too (I'm blaming it on a dead laptop and trying to BG on my iPad which is tricky sometimes. Or maybe i'm just human!) as soon as I realised, I moved them back, if someone had taken the trouble to pm I would have done it sooner!

    Re a new BG
    Take a look HERE

There are 63 boards and 54 sub boards on the MSE forums with around 5000 posts a day, added to that the main site has 100s of articles to maintain and a weekly in depth email goes out to over 8 million people a week, so the small MSE team is a pretty busy one :)

The people who use the compers boards are just important as members as any other members but, the board is running ok, merges get done pretty quickly etc so maybe a new BG is on the 'to do list' but not right at the top :)

    Thanks Glad

I am quite aware of how big the whole of the MSE website is thanks

If Andrea has asked for another BG then there is a reason for it. I.E more hands make light work.

If Andrea & the forum team has changed their minds it would be polite if someone could tell the people who have added their names to the list that they have changed their minds & will now not be needing them.

That's if after 6 weeks the people who have put their names down are still interested in being a BG.

Might have my fault too re: yesterday's coke-up ;)

It would appear I typo'd the wrong date in my tidy and put 29/09 instead of 28/09. Maybe that could have had a small part to do with it...

Anyway, I consider my legs well and truly slapped and I'll double check my typing in future :)
Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...
