Hi all
I'm fairly new to this comping lark and have been doing them for a few days now. I've been putting my home phone number in but after seeing posts from winners that they have received phone calls, it's got me worried that I might miss out.
Should I put my mobile number in or can I trust that they will leave an answerphone message on my home phone?
Any advice would be great. Thanks very much!
Thanks to all competition posters :T0 -
Just a small tip to speed up doing the Top Gear type comps ~ you know the ones with the 15 boxes.
After you have pressed submit and you get "answer correct" do not bother to wait for/or press close, go straight to click the next number. Only one mouse click less, but saves quite a bit of time.0 -

The winning phone calls I have had have not left messages on answerphone ~ usually rung back the next day. Phone calls don't bother me a lot, but I luckily don't get many. The ones I do get, I usually suss out and politely tell them where to go ~ especially the "you have won a holiday ~ only need to pay xxx" and (then I am not so polite).
If you have an old mobile ~ payg, use that with not much credit on, as there have been stories of people getting unsolicited texts which have somehow downloaded, and used up credit ~ could be costly if you are on a contract phone.0 -
Apologies if this has been posted before, but I save myself time by never logging out of sites that require log-in with a username and password. I just close the window. The next time I visit through a comp link posted here, I'm already logged in, without the need to re-enter username and password.
Works for about 80% of the sites I use.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MoneySavingExpert Forum Team0 -
Apologies if these tips have been said before - but I haven't trawled through the whole thread yet!
For postal comps:
I write out the postcard/back of envelope and in the top right corner (where you put the stamp), I put the end date of the competition. I keep all my postcard entries in a pile in order of end date (eg. nearest end date on top) and post each one about 3 days before end date - covering the end date with a stamp. This was a tip given to me by an aunt who used to pick the winners for a newspapers comptitions - she said that the early entries went to "the bottom of the pile" and the later entries are more likely to be picked as they are nearer the top. (Although I imagine a machine picks the winners these days!)
I also use a sticker with my name, address and telephone number to stick on the back of postal entries (For anyone doing the Royal mail postal survey, I use the left-over unused address labels you get each week and write my own address on) I write the stickers in advance, so that I always have a supply for any last minute comps!
Hope this helps someone win something nice!Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

I do similar - with postal entries I make a note in the corner of the closing date so if I have a pile to send I know which need 1st class if its a last minute entry and which I can get away with second (although I know it doesnt make too much difference these days!).
I also have a pre-saved email signature with my name, address and phone number, and I have printed labels with my name, address, number and email so I can stick these to my postal entries - saves a lot of writing!! I just cross out the bits they don't need and add date of birth on the rare occasions its required.
I have also taken my comping addiction one step further - I have a little plastic wallet set up with pre-printed labels, stamps and envelopes/postcards so everything is in one place when I am on a postal comping mission!!
What I also do when I am reading a magazine is I have a post-it pad to hand, and any page that has a competition I stick a post-it on. Then when I am in my comping mode I can easily turn to the relevant pages and dont need to re-read the whole magazine. Some magazines I have no intention of re-reading so I tear out the comp page and pop this in my plastic wallet, and once a week (usually Sunday nights!!) I go through and write out my entries.
Hope this is useful to someone... and doesn't show me up too much as a comping geek!! If only my geekiness meant more prizes!!:D0 -

Hi guys
Hoping I am posting this question in the right thread. But would asume it would be a good tip if you can enter them all or not.
I would like to know if anyone knows about these types of competitions, like the one here:
Clicky
I have entered ones with the same sites in the past few days for electric toothbrushes and Spongebob goodies.
My question is: The competitions are obvioulsy the same, if you check the terms and conditions, they are all run by the same company with the same terms and conditions and they state 1 entry per person.
Are they classed as different competitions when appearing on different sites? or are they 1 big competition and I disqualify myself by entering on more than one of the sites?
The reason I ask is that up to now, I assumed that they were all classed as seperate, but the one I entered the other day about toothbrushes had me worried. One the same page as the comps on all the sites was a survey about your dental health, when you clicked an answer/vote to that it then displayed the persentages of anwsers recieved for each option. It didn't matter what site I used, when I clicked my answer all the sites had exactly the smae persentages, so obviously were linked to combine the answers from all sites.
Does that mean that also the comp entries from all of these are all going to the same place? Does that mean that it then look to the promoter that you are entering more that once?
Am easily confused and a born worrier....:rotfl: , so don't want to think I am spending time entering for completitions I am actually being excluded from for being classed as multiple entries.
Cheers in advance."Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass....it's about learning how to dance in the rain"0 -
