Petrol, fill up or just enough for journey

I fill my car up when the low fuel light comes on. this normally lasts me 3 weeks and costs, at present prices, just over £40.
Small car 35 litre tank.
Others put in £5.00 a time and fill up 8 times to my once.
Which is more economical/moneysaving?

Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:

I have no idea but I would guess that it may be 50/50 - you would waste petrol nipping in to the garage 8 times, but maybe you would save some by driving around with a lighter tank.
There again when money is tight, like my prepay meter you just top up when you can.

The people that put £5 in at a time are either skint or have a fetish for visiting petrol stations.0

Just fill your tank, drive until a quarter full then repeat. Simples!2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
fill up the tank.
any benefits run by having a reduced car weight. Will be negated by having to using fuel to get to the petrol station.
Only time I do not fill to the top. Is when I am running out and know I can get to cheaper petrol station later on.0 -
I fill mine to the top. I dont brim it to the filler neck though.
There is always a queue at my local fuel station I want to be there as little as i can. Its funny watching the people in big cars stick a fiver in the tank. Thinking if they catch the red lights when they come out that will be gone before they cross them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If my OH is running really low she'll pop a few quids worth of diesel in from the local independent station and wait to fill up until she picks the little one up from school while she's passing ASDA or Sainsbury's who are a few pence cheaper per litre.0

I filled up my LR at an "expensive" petrol station and the next time at a "cheap" petrol station, on a fill up of about £125.00, there was only £5.00 difference between them.2018 totals:

I always run it down until nearly empty and then fill to the top.
I don't do any of this 'fill £10/20' lark as I find it's a bit pointless, plus it's just irritating to stand behind someone trying to desperately get it on the mark.0 -
I put £10 or £15 in. If I were to have a full tank the OH would be 'borrowing' my car on a regular basis .... , best he sees between quarter & half a tank0

I do the bits and bobs rather than a fill up basically because I don't have the money to fill up all in one go...plus if I had more fuel in the car, I would be tempted to use it more on non essential journeys.
I don't go out of my way to put fuel in, it's on my school run journey. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
