I think a lot of sellers are doing the same. I've said from the beginning that this might be the reason why buyers are getting pushy about apparent 'overcharges' as they are comparing it to sellers who are routinely offering free postage.

TBH this arguement should now be old news.

Now Ebay charge on postage - theres no reason for anyone to put postage beyond cost.

I still find if i add the postage to the price though - some things wont sell.

If the item is wrapped well enough to survive Royal Mail why would it not be fine going by courier? If I bought two items (similar or same) from you, one by courier and one by Royal Mail, and the courier one was wrapped up more than the RM one I'd wonder why you didn't take such care in wrapping the RM one.

Anyway, you don't need to wrap them to know the weight or roughly

    Erm - i do know roughly - thats called a guess - which i what i said i do :D

As for items going by royal mail and courier - you dont know what yodel and hermes do to small parcels - really? First time i used them for smaller stuff, when medium parcels came out - my item arrived smashed to bits.

Eveything that goes via courier - i send boxed and well packed. The same item can travel in a jiffy bag via Royal mail without issue.
  • I routinely refund buyers if I have accidentally overcharged on postage, and have received several messages from buyers saying how nice it is as nobody has ever refunded them before, even though they have seen the postage was a lot less than they paid.

I then get a refund on PayPal fees too :)

I too have done the same, countless times, and have never heard a peep from the buyer! :(
Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!
  • Buyer saw the costs up front before they bought the item but just doesn't understand the concept of business.

  • Anyway, you don't need to wrap them to know the weight or roughly how much it'll add to the size. You can always put the item in a jiffy envelope or wrap some bubble wrap around and weigh and measure it. You don't have to seal it/tape it.

By roughly how much it will add to the size, I meant you can see through the way I said after that that you can see whether it'll add 1cm or 10cm, for example. It should be roughly right within mm/a cm because you actually measure it rather than you just guessing and possibly adding far more (or nowhere near enough).

You can put them in a jiffy envelope or bubblewrap to see how much of a difference it makes. If you know the size and weight, or as close to it as possible, you shouldn't have to guess the price.

My point is, you should send everything well packed and if a buyer bought two items they may not see it as one way being badly handled and needing more packaging, they'd see one as not being packaged as well. Royal Mail can throw things around just as much as any courier anyway.

I've had things sent to me through both them couriers...half of the Hermes stuff never arrived. Aside from that the rest got to me fine and was packaged well enough, but none of them had extra packaging, it was just sent in jiffy envelopes.
  • I think the answer to your question is put the shoe on the other foot- if you paid £3.50 and it only cost £1.20 would you let it go or would you query it and ask for a bit back? Yes the buyer paid £3.50 but that could be because that is what she expected it to cost (as you did else you wouldn't have charged that) - the fact that it came up cheaper is therefore questionable.
  • Yes the buyer paid £3.50 but that could be because that is what she expected it to cost

But she doesn't know about the cost of packing etc and eBay fees, these are the sellers costs.

Unless it was wrapped in an envelope made of gold, it didn't cost £2.30 to pack it.

Better to just get a low DSR for postage or for a buyer to get in touch?

Seems sellers want buyers to get in touch before leaving feedback, except when it's over postage.

I wouldn't roll out of bed for £2.30.
