Buyer asking for postage refund

  • Sod that,,,, buyers aren't stupid.

They bid what they are prepared to pay for the item inc delivery. Ebay used to be the loser with inflated P&P, it was never the buyer (unless they were stupid enough to not check) and now that's been sorted too in fee structure changes.

Tell them to jog on... You say you're not a big seller so forget the stars/ neg. A single neg will make no odds to you.

I'm a regular buyer but rarely sell, and even I think ebay is taking the wet by protecting the buyer to this extent.

(Best get off my soap box now!) :-)

A neg won't hurt, a low star will...as you don't sell you might not realise just how dangerous stars are to a seller.

Yeah cos im a mind reader too - and know if they buyer will buy one or 3 items.

They might collect - and ive wasted time packing.

I also dont know if they will choose royal mail or courier. If courier - i can pack more generously.

    I pack different for overseas.

And finally - if it does not sell i take it to a charity shop. I would look daft taking them packed in jiffy bags and post boxes.

I get most right by guessing - it aint rocket science.

NO LOW STARS FOR POSTAGE FOR 18 MONTHS

If the item is wrapped well enough to survive Royal Mail why would it not be fine going by courier? If I bought two items (similar or same) from you, one by courier and one by Royal Mail, and the courier one was wrapped up more than the RM one I'd wonder why you didn't take such care in wrapping the RM one.

Anyway, you don't need to wrap them to know the weight or roughly how much it'll add to the size. You can always put the item in a jiffy envelope or wrap some bubble wrap around and weigh and measure it. You don't have to seal it/tape it.

If you know people may buy more than one then do the same as above and do that first with two items, then three. If you sell more than one type of item which is sized differently and may sell together than do the same for them.

You may not have any low stars but do you ever lose out on postage costs?

A small business seller or private seller will be hurt far more by low stars and negative feedback than a big seller.

I think this forum shows that there are a lot of stupid buyers out there and they don't always bid what they're prepared to pay, don't always know how much it actually costs to post or even take any notice of the postage costs until they get the item (and decide that that £1.20 postage they just paid for a massive heavy item is far too much).
  • Tell them to SOD off.
They were willing to pay the P&P price as stated

A great strategy for someone who has decided to lose their account.

Unfortunately on ebay the phrase 'the customer is always right' is now much truer than it has ever been. It is a foolish seller who ignores the power that a buyer holds.

I sell everything now with free p&p and include it in the price. I also only list on free listing days when you can start your listing at whatever pricemyou wish. I then choose to send economy as free. Then I charge the difference for the other services so they are never more than what it costs. Buyers can't give bad DSR feedback then.

I think a lot of sellers are doing the same. I've said from the beginning that this might be the reason why buyers are getting pushy about apparent 'overcharges' as they are comparing it to sellers who are routinely offering free postage.

  • I routinely refund buyers if I have accidentally overcharged on postage, and have received several messages from buyers saying how nice it is as nobody has ever refunded them before, even though they have seen the postage was a lot less than they paid.

I then get a refund on PayPal fees too :)

Removed by Ebay - so don't count. And i guessed postage right - just over £5 via courier - but i always keep it at £4.99. It would have been about £7.99 via RM. You read through all my posts to find that - i feel sorry for you.

A pathertic attempt to prove i can't guess postage, when they buyer, a rival, trashed all my stars.

A few months ago my son asked my to post 6 items via RM. I looked at them and told him the price. It was EXACT.

As i say - not rocket science.
