Buyer asking for postage refund
Comments

I would refund 50p and tell them to sod off, P&P covers packaging, couldve been a very expensive envelope!0

Its a scam - tell them to sod off and report them for feedback extorsion if they leave a neg.
If the postage had been lower - your would have got more for your item.
Demanding money from sellers is against Ebay policy - i have always refused, had negs removed - and got buyers a warning.
p.s ive been guessing postage for 13 years - its easy when you know the prices. But to say you wern't aware of Royal Mails prices changes is comical - the prices have RISEN sharply - so your estimate should have been too low, if anything.0 -
Surely you have an idea of what packaging it needs and whether it will go as a large letter or small parcel for instance before you pack it up. Unless items are close to a weight boundary you should know exactly what it should cost. If not how do you price postage? Most sellers pack the item AFTER selling - so its impossible to weight and measure it beforehand.0 -

It's not like you to suggest that all sellers are stupid techspec!
I cannot comprehend how a seller can possibly manage with setting p and p prices unless they know in advance the size and weight of the packed item. It really isn't rocket science and I think if a seller routinely struggles with that as a concept then perhaps online selling should not be attempted
Yes we all make mistakes and use a little too much bubble wrap or forget the weight of a card envelope or something, but such mistakes should be rare.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I only use ebay to sell a few bits now & then, especially when I have a wardrobe cull.
I carefully weigh everything with packaging on the scales & check the weight with the RM site.
Even after all my checking I had 2 items go through as a large letter which is now a fair bit cheaper this time :O. As one had paid by cheque, I messaged both the buyers and asked whether they'd prefer a small refund or I could put the money in a charity tin next time I was in town - then asked if they have a preference. Both said they were happy for me to donate to the air ambulance as I attend regular fund raisers, which I have done.
Happy buyers who said they were happy to pay the stated postage charge as it stood & happy charities
(My stars for postage are 4.9)

I'd refund minus the postage AND packing. Buyers seem to think packing is free. It's called p&p. not P.
However much packaging was. Deduct that and refund the buyer the remainder.Sigless0 -
That's a stupid comment. just weigh the item and packaging.
Yeah cos im a mind reader too - and know if they buyer will buy one or 3 items.
They might collect - and ive wasted time packing.
I also dont know if they will choose royal mail or courier. If courier - i can pack more generously.
I pack different for overseas.
And finally - if it does not sell i take it to a charity shop. I would look daft taking them packed in jiffy bags and post boxes.
I get most right by guessing - it aint rocket science.
NO LOW STARS FOR POSTAGE FOR 18 MONTHS :cool:0 -

Techspec you don't need to actually pack it!
Either use a Jiffy bag or a box, if in a box then it is the box size that matters and you must know how much packaging weighs and if not dump a load of bubble wrap on scales and measure that. The postage bands are so generous now that if box and item weighs a certain amount you know how much weight you have left within that bracket for packaging.
Same with jiffy, you can try it in the small parcel slot unsealed, you don't need to actually seal the thing. :money:
The courier V RM issue is a red herring, you still have to quote for both and for couriers especially MyHermes with their 2kg band it is not complicated to ask yourself whether item plus box plus wrapping is anywhere near that.
I am not brain of Britain but I have a set of scales and I know my box weights and weight of Jiffy bags and just weigh the item knowing which size box I will need.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
