At this late hour the best you can do is buy from RM site, let them hold them in a nominee account and then sell through them straight away.
It will cost a minimum of £17-50 or 1% but at least it`s the fastest way.

It's £7.50 for selling from the nominee account for a limited period. A lot of guff on here about setting up an account with stockbrokers, not necessary, particularly if you want to sell quickly.

This is exactly what I've just did, but can't seem to find any info how I get RM to sell the shares on my behalf? ...& is this something I can do on the first day of trading: 15 October 2013 ?

The Royal Mail Nominee Share Service is designed as a convenient way for you to buy, hold and sell Royal Mail shares. There is no charge for holding your shares in the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service, and you will not have to worry about losing a share certificate. If you are allocated shares, you will be sent a statement shortly after the close of the Offer confirming the number of shares held for you. You will receive all of the benefits received by Royal Mail shareholders, as if you were a registered shareholder, including communications from Royal Mail and notices of shareholder meetings and the right to vote at those meetings. You will also be able to buy and sell Royal Mail shares through Equiniti’s online, telephone and postal dealing services. You will find the Terms and Conditions of the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service, and more information on Equiniti’s share dealing services, in the Prospectus.

I haven't read all the 'guff' but a lot of folks on here will have trading accounts with multiple brokers, some of which will give trading credits which might mean they have zero selling costs.

I guess that this thread is not really aimed at such people however.

I'd be very surprised if that price doesn't fall dramatically once the 'sell' orders start to flood in.

Nice opportunity to make yourself some money then.

Quite a good 'what happens next' article has just gone up on the Independent newspaper website.

They only process funds during the working day, and then it depends how busy they are, I have found anywhere between couple of minutes to a couple of hours. No doubt today is a very busy day for them so may be longer. Bear in mind X-O is a rock bottom price so you can't expect the quickest service. You should see your money in your account under 'funds available'.

Is there a difference between 'funds available' and 'cleared funds'?

I used my debit card and funds were in my account within an hour. I have made an application but am worried about the warning 'cleared funds normally take 2 days'

I have tried phoning but can't get through.

Under normal circumstances, I transfer funds into my X-O account with my debit card, it shows as funds available within an hour, and then I buy shares with it immediately. But that is the normal T+3 settlement (payment in 3 days). I guess its the same buying RM shares but am not certain.

Nice one Snowman. I'm curious about " conditional trading" which some brokers offer. I'm with Hargeaves, Lansdowne. Does anyone know if they offer this?
No, I haven't tried calling them recently!:)

    Well what a disastrous day..

tried very hard to buy shares but was blocked at each turn.

TD Direct - failed the uru check - apparently living at your current address for less than 3 months is enough to fail it. They said it would take over 48 hours to process my application to trade shares through them because of this. they said they prefer customers who have been at their current address for over 3 years..

Lloyds - too busy to process an application to a trading account due to back log. I have been with lloyds for over 10 years and have have a very high credit rating. They said yesterday was too late to even attempt to open a trading account with them as the deadline is too close.

Natwest - like with TD who they are partnered with, my excellent credit history and the fact that I have banked their for 20 years means very little. I have only been at my new address for less than 3 months and that means I have wait 48 hours or up to 5 days to be able to see if they will ever let me trade with them.

Very upset about the whole thing. To those who managed to do it, congratulations.
