No, but perhaps they might consider not buying shares in the power and water companies directly and/or via the "foreign" corporations.
    How would that help?
Back in the Carpetbagging days, I opened several Building Society Accounts with £100, voted against the demutualisation, but when I was defeated I took the free shares and sold them. I figured that if someone is going to get an unearned windfall anyway, then it might as well be me. Thats Pragmatism, not Hypocrisy.

It wouldn't but such is the way with deeply-held principles: you don't always do things because they will make a difference but because you want to make a stand for what you think is right.

That's wanting to eat your cake and have it. At least I'm honest about being a money-grabbing capitalist. :D

I carpet bagged because I couldn't give a hoot who owned various institutions but was perfectly happy to have many 10x of £k extra in my bank account. I thought it was a good thing that I got richer so voted for demutualisation. My conscience is clear.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I just tried to set up an account with Hargreaves Lansdown. I was planning to invest £1000 but was uncomfortable depositing £1000 before I was even asked for a username. I therefore just deposited £10 thinking after the process was complete i would make the rest of the deposit, but it's now saying my application will be process tomorrow :(

Did the people who signed up today deposit before having an account they could log in to?

If people want to buy the shares at this time surely it would be easier to just apply direct on gov.uk and request a share certificate? Then transfer the share to a chosen broker afterwards if you want to sell etc.

That's what I've just done anyway. Could be wrong!
    Sorted out my finances...

I made the deposit at the same time as setting up the account. Just before 9pm tonight. It did ask for usernames to be set up, along with other security. I have had a confirmation email to say the account is set up. I've logged back in and it shows zeros, but it did say that it could take a day to show online.

I assume that as their front page says they will accept all Royal Mail share purchasing completed before midnight, they have the capability to ensure it happens.

Dont you just love the hypocrisy of the unions and their members. They all (bar 368 of them) have their price :)

What laughable nonsense from the Daily Mail tendency of this board.

For anyone tempted at the last hour, Hargreaves Lansdown are still taking applications, though their online system appears a bit loaded. They do have no extra charge human trading for this, so do try that if you have difficulties. Getting a bit late for new customers but still may be possible. Even existing customers are unlikely to get it done if you wait until 11:55PM for an 11:59 time limit, so get moving now if you're going to.
