For those of you waiting for share certificates I would register for a shareview account and also send them a cancelled cheque now, this means you can hopefully start to trade immediately once you have your share certificate, it would also mean you can arrange for a BACs transfer of your money immediately and save, 3-4 days wait for the cheque to arrive and 5 working days for the cheque to clear.
This may in fact be faster for you than other who have already dealt0 -

Yes, that is an option for most people.
Unfortunately, it is not an option for me as I shall be out of the country for two months from early next week so would be unable to return the certificate and Crest form in the required time.0 -
Thanks to clarifying advice (and phone numbers) from people here I made my call on 0121 415 7047 (it didn't take all that long) and this is what they said:
* People who want to swap their certificates to Nominee Shares at Equiniti have to request a transfer form which will be sent by post.
* The Certificates were sent out today.
* You can't deal till you have your certificate, even if you have your reference number, which you can request by phone, but they will send that out by post too, so not much point now anyway, as it will be on the Certificates.
* [Q: Some people seem to have done deals with certificates even though the certificates had not been sent out?] Some brokers might be doing that, but if anything goes wrong (uncertainty of outcome, but if anything goes wrong, it will have gone wrong). Equinity don't do that.
* [Q: How did people with certificates get reference numbers?] They must have asked for them. (Implied: This is unusual. But you can do it.)
* Once you are in a Nominee account at equiniti, you can deal by phone or on line, but only through Equiniti.
* The £7.50 dealing automated phone line price is now discontinued, unless you already have your deal set up. [Ie it won't be pulled for people whose deals are in process.]
* The £17.50 online dealing charge is now closed. It's now £15.00 plus 1% [I have a feeling that's £17.50 for most of us.]
* I think the dealing charge is now 1.5% plus £45, but I am not sure of that as I'm not at present planning to use it so I didn't make a clear note.
Hope that might be useful to someone.0 -

Why is everybody in such a rush to send certificates back to equiniti/shareview? There are many online brokers to whom you could send your certificates. Some of them are cheaper than equini, most will be dealing with smaller numbers of newbies.
No matter which broker you choose, it would be sensible to open an account there before you get your certificate (and read the T&Cs and charges information before you open the account)0 -
From the original email...
Share dealing for Royal Mail Nominee Share Service participants

a simple automated system using your telephone - no need to register or open an account
Charges: 0.75% of the transaction value, minimum £7.50
- available 24 hours a day - place your sale instruction at any time
- instructions will be added together with those of other customers and sold at intervals:

If you get the cert before you travel, you could take it to a proper stockbroker if there's one local to you (look in yellow pages). This will not be cheap! For example Redmayne Bentley
I have no connection with the above company, I've never used them; this is just an example not a recommendation or advice.

There never was a "£7.50" deal. It is still operating as always (0.75%, min charge £7.50), and ends on November 8th!0 -

Thanks, that's another option.
I've now got an account set up with X-O, so as long as I get the certs and the X-O Trading PIN (being sent in the post) before I travel, I should be okay.0 -

What is this about sending a cancelled cheque? Can you explain.0
