Couple of things........the whole "tick this box if you don't want that, and don't tick the next box if you do want this" was very confusing, and Im not surprised people got it wrong.

Also, whats this "send us a cancelled or a blank cheque" business all about?

Anti money laundering and fraud prevention.

I had read somewhere that you had to pay £10 for a share certificate, so if they have refunded you all that excess money

Typically you will be charged to convert shares from a share certificate to a nominee account and also vice versa getting shares in a nominee account made into share certificates. This is AFTER you have bought them if you change your mind. The fee varies on the broker and the account you have with the broker.

Choosing a certificate or nominee at the start is not usually a charged for option.

Your first priority is to get onto them and ask where your 90 pence has gone.

Its clearly stated in the prospectus and email people got, any money less than the value of one shares (ie up to £3.29) will be donated to charity.

All applications under the Direct Retail Offer will be made on the terms and conditions of the Direct Retail Offer set out in section 16 of this Part. If no part of an application is accepted, all monies paid on application will be returned, without interest. No fractional entitlements to Ordinary Shares will be allocated and therefore allocations will be satisfied by rounding down to the nearest whole Ordinary Share. If an application is accepted in part, refunds in respect of the difference between the aggregate Offer Price of the Ordinary Shares applied for and the application monies tendered will be paid to relevant applicants without interest. However, any sums less than the Offer Price of one Ordinary Share will not be refunded but will be given by the Secretary of State to charity.

Whats the scam? Under-valuing of RM? Or that ordinary people got a quick profit or because of some delayed emails?

Shares have been sold to the public (also known as Retail Investors) with delays in the issuing of share allocation notifications via the registered email address given by the share buyer, as well as the recieval of the Unique Reference Numbers (URN), issued by Equiniti Global also known as Shareview.co.uk preventing these from being traded on the London Stock Exchange as Royal Mail PLC on the 15/10/2013.

I know it's childish to find things like this funny, but... I did anyway. :o
  • Thank GJ, I was sure I read about an extra charge for share certificates somewhere, but I was not certain hence why I was asking in here.

I have been told by Equiniti that they can send a form to transfer the share cert back to the nominee account and this will be done without charge, at least that is what I was told on the phone yesterday. Also briefly looking on their website I found a pdf that seemed to imply the same thing, but maybe someone else can confirm this also.

I assume that this is the best option for most people, as selling the share certificate directly is likely to cost £45 minimum.

The fact that the company has been giving misleading advice, preventing people from trading by not sending them the ref number and claiming people opted to be sent a share certificate when they did not opt for this (myself included), and then hitting them with a £45 charge for doing so.

    Not cool...

Assuming that everything you say is correct, was any of it not published in the prospectus or T&Cs?

If any of it was missing, there may be cause for concern, but if potential investors didn't like what was actually published about the deal, then they should've looked elsewhere for the chance of a fast buck. ;)

So what has that got to do with anything, smartiepants?

    (BaconandEggs didn't send in £753.29!)

Ignore this irrelevant stuff from gjchester, BaconandEggs, and chase that 90 pence, it's yours!!

I spoke to a lady at equniti and she wasn't really that helpful. She said that I could sell online using a certificate and that it 'would only cost pennies more'! But she could not say how much more.
And she told me I didn't need a nominee form.

Anyway, since a lot on here have requested a nominee form I insisted one was sent.
