Take it and run honey....
The money thing was from my parents - they gave us £8k so we could afford this house (it was the difference between living in a very bad area and a love quiet little village). They tell me to forget about it as they did the same for my brother but I just can't help feeling it's a huge amount of money to receive as a gift. I'll probably stop counting it as debt but aim, instead, to build up the same amount in the emergency fund so I know I could pay them back if they ever fell on hard times.[STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]

This is a better idea. Please please please rearrange think of this as a gift as it is clearly not debt. They have peace of mind that their grandkiddies are in a better area and you are happy. Don't keep calling it a debt because it's not. It was a lifeline. I think saving and having it stashed is the best "thank you" you can give them because their assistance has allowed you to prepare for every eventuality... Very cool! So DFD in June 2015 yes:o?.. thats not long to go in MSE terms!!!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Hello everyone
Back on board this month, I really want to get to the end of October with money still in my brown envelopes so I'm going to try extra hard this time.
The first thing I've done is said NO to Justin Timberlake tickets. I have been waiting for this show for, ooh, 6 years - and the tickets are £104.50. There are cheaper ones (£77 and £55) but I don't want to sit at the back, and if I'm paying £77 I may as well pay £104. I can't afford either. I love him but it's not worth the money.

Right. Spreadsheet done, SFDs planned. Money looks as follows:
NSD: 1/20 (including today)
Food budget: £0/£150
Foodbank: £3 to Trussell Trust DONE
Packed lunches: 1/18 (including today)
Extra money: £18/£100 (DSs clothes and toys being sold)
Beauty products: £0/£10 (shouldn't need anything)
Will need to get DS a halloween costume but will ask around on my Facebook group before buying new.
Also just about to send off final payment for our remortgage which will bring our term down from 21 years to 15 years with no extra cost - woohoo!
Good luck everyone xxMy debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

thriftylass wrote: »xJOJOx, wow £20 for 5 on groceries. I know you said you have a full freezer but where do you buy fresh stuff like fruit, veg onions and milk etc to make it lat 5 for 5 weeks. Could prob learn some tricks here.
Unfortunately not much too learn, I take advantage from unused products from works kitchen. Ie Sunday Roast, I take the left over veg which lasts til thursday. Curry night, take home freeze etc They love me as they dont like waste, and I use everything ;-) The £20 will cover milk, fruit etc. Sometimes I even get given milk home when we've not gone through as much as usual x
I do tend to bulk cook when freezer low, Ill make things with similar ingrediants together, shepherds pie, lasagna, bolonise, mince meat pie. So all the fresh ingridents I need, ie onions/peppers etc I use all in one go and dont need to buy more. I do this as my fresh ingredients were always going off before I use.
No ones allowed in kitchen on cooking day, as it is a little crazy with lots going on.Debt Remaing £315 :jBreath out the past, Breath in the futureBig Dreams Start Small0 -

Checking in for the first of the month! Overpayment of £270 to the CC. Think I might have over done it in terms of what I'm expecting of myself . . . but I'm sure it will be fine. Otherwise SFD.
Having said that though, the car wouldn't start this morning  so may be more car costs for new battery or worse! Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that!Total debt: [STRIKE]£9473.62[/STRIKE] £7,384.87 22% PAIDTAF #25 NSD 8/12 | Food £43.45/£50 | eBay 0/20 | Exercise 5/18:T Proud to be Dealing with my Debt :TDFD: June 20150 -

It's the idea. Over payment first forces you into a corner and makes you focus on what pennies you have left...:p“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. I did forget a couple of things (full of cold so really didn't want to be there!!!) so will pick them up after picking eldest up from school. Want tomorrow to be a SFD!0
