What do you want to be when you grow up?

I wanted to ride a dancing horse bareback in the circus AND work as a trapeze artist.
I did have a stint professionally riding. Not in a leotard though. Who knows, maybe one day.....it would scare the horses now though. I also have had 'dancing horses'. I would like to do some sort of costume thing. DH has very sweetly suggested if I get well enough to get back in the saddle we do something like costumed riding, dressage to music in period costume. I'd be happy just to hack around the neighbour hood in fancy dress, but it MIT concern my neighbours a little?
I think my trapeze days though, are well and true
Y a pipe dream now though.;)0 -
I (38 yrs) was recently with a friend (50 yrs) her daughter (24 yrs) and her grandson (3 yrs) and I asked him what he wanted to be, without even thinking about it he said was going to be a Power Ranger :rotfl: we all then turned the question on each other, alas the 3yr old was the only one that knew what he wanted!
Personally I dont think I will be happy until I can afford a small holding with a few acres and lots of dogs, I'm not really a people person and this going to work lark and having to be polite to folk all day is really starting to take it toll.

I'm 46 and still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up!
On a serious note, it has blighted my life - drifting from job to job to job - no real skills or experience so most of them have been low paid. I envy so much the people I grew up with who knew what the wanted to be, did the right O levels, A levels and degree, and then went on to successful and happy careers.
At last count I have had about 25 different jobs throughout my life.:(

Its called a 'portfolio career' and me too.. When I worked it drove my family and friends spare. As soon as I get good and recognition at something I want a new challenge. I'm not interested in getting to the top, I'm interested in stimulation. DH has a very demanding job, but had a different two jobs before that...less demanding, more interesting.
. And still has some interest in them. When asked what we do for a living these days (questions we HATE) we say he is a polymath and I am the factotum. :rotfl:

RetiredA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Similar here. I am 34 though and have had less jobs but I have never really known what I want to do and have always done admin type jobs (which I have enjoyed or not enjoyed to varying degrees) and still no clue now. I've been a full time mum to my little boy for the past three years but goodness knows what I'll do once I decide to go back to work!
I keep hoping that when I grow up that the answer as to what I should do will just 'come to me'. Or not...0 -
When I was little and got asked this question, I always used to say I wanted to be a lollipop lady - because you don't have to start work until you're retired :rotfl:0

I did my dream job for 40 years.
As a teenager in the early 70s computers fascinated me and so I started building my own. I went on to study what is now called computer science and spent my working life getting paid for something I would have done for nothing as a hobby.
I decided a long time ago that when I grew up I wanted to live on a boat and go and explore the great out there and that is exactly what I'm doing.
I retired in May this year at 55 and bought myself a boat that I'm now living on. I'm meeting some fantastic people and am as happy in retirement as I was at work.
The only cloud on the horizon is that my Mum has dementia and at some point I will have to decide how she's going to be cared for. I'm currently spending a week with Mum as I have a couple of land based things I need to do. I'm going back to the boat on Sunday.
Many people seem amazed that I have actually done it. I think deep down they think that living on a boat and exploring is a childish dream that I should have grown out of rather than actually done. Mind you it hasn't stopped them visiting the boat and doing the odd trip during the summer. I think most have since gone home to their lives with a lot to think about.
To me life is about contentment and I can only say to people that they shouldn't let "life" bog them down. It can be a leap of faith but a dream you don't fulfill is just a dream. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Hey, that's my job when I grow up!
However, I dont think 10 lessons qualifies me for that so I'll have to say engineer. I did go through a period of dreaming about a career at CERN when I was at uni, unfortunately my grades got in the way of that and I had to settle for an office job until I graduate next year.0
