Lied to about iPhone availability, where do I stand?

Hi everyone,
I know this is probably going to end up just being a bit of a life lesson for myself, but thought I'd ask anyway...
I have been with three for a long time - multiple contracts for various family members and a few for myself (personal, work, iPad). I've always been happy to recommend them and have no problems with their service.
However, I recently wanted to upgrade as my contract had come to an end, so went and got the iPhone 5S. In the Three store I was told there would be no chance of me getting an iPhone 5S in Gold until at least November, and that if I didn't want to wait that long if have to get a Space Grey that they had available. A few days later a different Three store (that I'd left my details with) phoned and said they had the Gold one in stock and that the other store had lied to me. If I'd have known it would have been less than a month even I wouldn't have upgraded and waited and feel very annoyed that I was lied to as a loyal customer.
Is there any come back on this for me at all? I do t blame three, I blame the salesman there. I already spoke yo three on the phone and they told me the cooling off period only applies to online sales.
Thanks for any input.

Yes, I should feel guilty about poor children because I work hard to afford myself a nice phone. Thanks for the constructive reply.0

Congratulations. Does it really matter to you what colour your phone is?!
You have no right to return or end your contract. Best you can do, if you absolutely must have the gold phone, is to buy one SIM-free and sell your does-the-same-thing-but-isn't-the-right-colour one.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Thanks. It's probably this that is needed to make me a littleness savvy0

My missus has the 5s gold and you'll be stinking mad if you went for this one as it looks like a cheap like gimmick phone from a market trader.
Silver & grey are the best colours.0 -

Is that so hard to imagine? The same as someone chooses the colour clothes, car, bag, whatever they buy?0 -

Hah, thanks for making me feel better
To the point though - forget the phone and colour, is this something that's generally just done in sales talk? No comebacks? I suspect I wouldn't have the same kind if response to my question if it were regarding something bigger like a car or house (rightly so of course - but I was more interested in whether this kind of thing "just happens" and is allowed to0 -

Actually, I always buy brand new cars but never choose the colour. Last one I bought I wanted dark grey, but there weren't any in the country. The dealer had a navy one in exactly the right spec there, and I negotiated 25% off list price, chose my reg plate and picked it up a few days later. 2 years later I couldn't care less that it's navy and not grey because it really, really, really doesn't matter.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
