  • Update to mine....

I have finished stripping out and bleaching all my cupboards. I have thrown away about 9 bags of food -flour, pasta, suger, cereals.... everything open (and a bit I discovered was out of date). I carefully cleaned everything, and then put the remainder of my food away again.

I decided to have a cup of tea to celebrate, and opened the first cupboard I had completed.

One of the little b@ggers was waving at me. Not sure if he was taking the p*ss or just wondering where his mates had gone.

How much bleach does it take to kill them?????
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

  • Was reading this out of interest with my 2 yo DS sat on lap and when he saw the picture of the weevil in post 10 he pointed at screen and shouted 'cook'. Not really much help but he thought it was funny:D

    Hi
I had two bags of opened flour in my cupboard---still in the bags with pegs on them as I used them a while ago! I was going to make some scones today and when I put the flour on the scales it has tiny little creepy crawly things in it eeeeek!!! as did my other bag of flour!!!
I have never seen these before---what could they be? I have checked everything else in the cupboards and they are all ok! The cupboards were only cleaned out with bleach a week ago
so they are spotless(makes a change LOL)
    Thanks

They're Weevils and used to be quite common in flour. We've not had them in a while though. I remember taking a bag of flour with said weevils in back to Mr S's store - I got a refund, but the CS assistant did say they were quite harmless!
Definitely wouldn't have fancied using the flour.
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

They might be flour beetles, I had them a couple of days ago. I emptied the cupboard, bleached it all out and I'm hoping I killed them all

  • CHUCK AWAY THE FLOUR! :D

You will need to empty your pantry completly.

Wipe down all shelves with disinfectnat.

    Wipe all your jars/tins/packets.

    The B*ggers get everywhere.

Be careful with any open packets of pasta/rice/cereal etc etc as the weevils will love them.

Check again in a few days to make sure none of the critters have hidden & come back to play!

I had flour beetles - the little b*ggers get everywhere. They hide down the back of the cupboard too.

One tip I did find on another site was to keep a box of matches in with the flour as apparatently they dont like the smell of sulphur. I've put a box in the cupboard and they seem to be finally gone - it could be chance and an old wives tale though.
The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese
  • I've had these little beasties and now I always put new packets of flour etc in the freezer for 24 hours to kill them. You can store flour in the freezer no problems.
