Hi frayed knot
We love premium bonds, we use them as savings, for EF, we used them when saving for this house, and previously for savings for lump sum to pay off our last mortgage on the old house
I think what works for us, is the fact that buying them each month is like buying whatever you are saving for , and makes us reluctant to cash any in, but in a real emergency you can cash them in, and have the money in a couple of days..
It works for us, but i suppose everyones way of saving is different.
I often find myself tempted to use cash savings sat in a normal savings account more easily, so i avoid that usually..current official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for

£20 paid off the mortgage, £18 off car loan, not bad!
Big changes for hubby, he is excited to start a new job in a couple of weeks time, the pay is less, but the savings in commute/car costs, and the fact he after his daughter turns 20 next month will no longer be paying the £500 + child maintainence his leach of an ex as been claiming from us, means he at last can do this job he has wanted to do, and hopefully we can adjust our financess to carry on saving and overpaying.
The fact he will be out of his current job, where he has been unhappy for a while will be worth the financial sacrifice. Life is too short to be unhappy..
The weather is crapperroney this weekend, im working in the morning, and next saturday, i hate working weekend when ive had early starts, and we have been so short staffed in my department this week , its a joke.
Think when my role changes in february, when the lady im covering for maternity leave returns, will be my time to move on in my work life too...current official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for

Good news all round, bet you can't wait for next month, and best of luck to hubby with new job,as you say Life is too short to be unhappy.

Grab your chance to move on when your role changes.Always have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:MF[STRIKE] March 2030[/STRIKE] Yes that does say 2030  Mortgage Free 21.12.18 _party_Now a Part Timer from 27.10.190 -
Thank you frayed knot!:)
Hubby cant wait to start new job, he is nervous as he has been with his current job many years.. over the last couple thoughhe has been unhappy there, He has stuck it out due to the high child maintainence payment, but at last he can start afresh at a lovely family run business less than ten minutes drive from home.. im jealous :rotfl:
My turn will come next year...
Just want to get to the end of next month, to work out budgets etc based on new salary.
Going to take this month as a shake up on the budget, look where savings can be made to allow us to make overpayments and keep topping up the p.bond savings.current official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for

payday for me tommorow, hubby gets his 28th, his last one with his current employer..
His new job is weekly pay, so will need to think how to make this work, i thought use my wage for mortgage, council tax and his will for weekly shop, petrol, animal food etc, and work out an ammount each week needed to transfer to other monthly bills..
Its a period of adjustment, new budget/wages.. it will work out im surecurrent official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for

Over paid £250 on payday, and £25 today from grocery savings etc
With hubbys new wages being less than current, ive a month to wait before i can work out our new budget.
Im seeing it as a challenge, i will have to work hard and be on the ball with money saving to keep up overpayments and savings..

Hi Jaydeejay
Im currently mulling over setting my next challenge, but need to wait a few weeks until we have a clear idea of hubbys new salary before i can do a new budget for everything..
After direct debit, mortgage balance today stands at £206,567.27
Interest for August- £508.81
Daily= £16.41
Made a tidy up over payment of £7.27, so new balance stands at £206,560 :T

hubby not sure about new job yet, seems as chaotic an organisation as one he left.. but more hours and less money.. we will see, hes set a timescale , if hes not happy he isnt staying, lifes too short to work long hours at a job you dont enjoy.
Not setting new challenges until he is settled and we know where we are with wages..
i feel a bit deflated at the moment, probably because of feeling worried about hubby, mixed with lack of focus on our plans..
Things have a habit of sorting themselves out, need to plod on for now..current official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for
