Thanks for dropping in tryharder, i have to agree, i have OCD i think when it comes to rounding balances down to neat ammounts.. i keep looking at ways to pay that annoying £50 on my mortgage balance, £235,500 looks so much neater than £235,550, dont you agree? :rotfl:

We have ordered the boom lift for working on the roof, materials are being costed, hopefully all will come together to start work on the workshop roof 21st of this month.. we have booked a week off work, its an area of 204 square metres of roof to cover, a mammoth task for hubby, son, and me (im going to be the labourer lol), but as always, we will rise to the challenge, nothing ventured

Another NSD day for me today. Im doing really well on keeping within my £80 a week grocery/dog food/cleaning product budget, im determined to save as much as we can, as we will have to borrow from our savings for the roof, and i want it paid back by the end of 2017
Off for a nice soak with my book, heres to a relaxing weekend .:T

Loving the neat round numbers... definitely appeals to my sense of tidiness! :T
  • Great progress, good luck with the roof, hope it all goes smoothly. That's a big job that will soon be crossed off the list!

thanks Eatingthe elephant, i must say its nerve wracking starting such a big project, but weve decided if we can take our time, and with hubby being so handy, we can do most jobs to as good a standard as a tradesman, better in some cases. We have many times paid for jobs doing, and thought afterwards we could have done better. I suppose if its your home you just put more love and care into it.
Dont know if its just us, but its a real struggle getting quality workmanship these days...

Am i turning into victor meldrew?? gulp :D

  • I completely agree Sammy! That's why we do so much ourselves too. I'm very rarely happy when other people do work for us, plus all the chasing and lack of planning really winds me up!

That said, if I am impressed, they must be really good so I do go out of my way to recommend them.

Hi Tryharder. Our workshop is an old stone building that in the1800's formed one of a number of buildings that was a brickworks on this site. The other part of the buildings were demolished as they fell into a derelict state, when we were making the track to access the top field, we removed quite a few tonnes of old stone from these former buildings, which we have piled up ready to be used again..

There is a lot of history to our house and land, i plan in the future to find out more about it, its fascinating thinking of the lives lived out where we now live, we feel priveliged to be part of it. The previous owners gave us the old deeds covering right back in time , with various owners, including the local estate, a wealthy landowner, a mine owner, the railway, to name a few.

We are so lucky to have found this property, its as if it was waiting for us, and though we have a lot of work to do its worth every bit of money and work involved to have it, cant wait till the fencing /gates etc for our animals are completed, 2018 will see the animals arrive, cant wait!:j

Have a lovely weekend everyone :)

woo hoo! cashed in £150 from £2 coins i saved, and made an overpayment with it, so new balance £235,400 :j

We wont have anything spare to make any more overpayments this month, we will be lucky if we scrape every last bit of cash needed tp pay for roofing on the workshop.. ive totted up, and including materials and machine hire etc, its cost us £5,545
But, would have cost us at least £3-4,000 more to pay someone to do it.. lts going to be a tough busy week for us next week getting it all done, i hope there arent too many mishaps:) we had saved most of the money, and with all the overtime, and our yearly bonus we get in this months pay, we should just scrape through to clear the credit card on which i bought the materials..

We break up for the week, me tommorow, hubby saturday, then its all systems go for the work on the roof. ive bought in lots of nice food and drinks etc to keep up morale, my son is helping too, he also has booked the week off work bless him :)
