Hubbys payday tomorrow, so July budget prepared, and I will transfer whatever left over after all d/ds covered to premium bonds.

As we have helped our daughter out a little with things needed for her house purchase, which is due to complete in the next 2 weeks, we will have 'only' £1500 (still a decent lump, just less than usual), to send this month, bringing the new balance to £18,000. :j

We have seen a property we love, 3 acres, all the outbuildings etc we want, and location, unfortunately its just£80,000  over our current budget.. we are seriously considering now renting a small property on the area we want, whilst continuing to save more if that's what it takes to get the property we want..:)

    I can feel a major budgeting/saving spree coming on!:rotfl:

Feeling a bit flat at the moment:o

On the positive side, another £1500 saved to premium bonds, so £18,000 saved now- but just checked, and no wins this month :(

On the crap side, still haven't found a house :( so looks like we will be renting and continuing to save for a few more months..

This weekend my daughter and her partner are moving into their new home, so exciting times for them starting on their life journey together :)

on the plus side- this week we won £40 on bonus ball at work, hubby received £17 cheque for extra cash due from ppi claim, and £40 from quidco for broadband I set up for my son, so a good start to our extra savings for our rural dream :j

I'm going to just set my mind to saving to keep positive, we WILL find a country home we love! :)

  • Hi Sammy, just found your diary and we are in similar positions! We've just paid off our mortgage and are now saving up to move to the country, it's good to see someone who is nearly there. I hope you find somewhere soon.

Thanks for dropping by ETE, nice hearing from fellow rural dreamers :)

Daughter and bf now in their house, after a stressful few days. Firstly, the previous owners had left the house in a filthy state, dog muck in the garden bins overflowing, the house didn't seem like it had been cleanded properly for months, they had left attic and garage full of unwanted belongings, even tampax wrapper and broken comb on unvacuumed bedroom floor, disgusting!

Then found after turning the boiler on to heat water, found major gas leak, after 48 hours awaiting gas man with no hot water, found the guy who previous owners had used to so call service the boiler had left a valve loose causing a massive gas leak :( luckily was easy cheap fix, but so spoiled the event of moving into their first home, along with the 3+ days spent cleaning the generally filthy house and garden..

then to top her week off, the estate agency she works for have informed her her job is no longer their at the end of the month due to a takeover, and all the long term staf having to re-apply for their jobs too, so all in all a rubbish week for my poor lass :(

On a bit of a cheerier note, we are viewing a little cottage on a farm on the outskirts of where we want to buy on Monday, we are planning on renting for 6 months, hopefully in that time a property to buy that we love will come along :) fingers crossed we can rent it if it as lovely as the pictures :) we wont find out untoll the end of next week at the earliest, as others have booked to view Friday apparently, don't know how the renting malarkey works really, but I'm hoping we get it, as we were hoping to complete the sale on this house on the 1st August, which would be spooky, as my signature for the last 3 years has said sell this house 1st august 2016 ;)

All change to our plans again! we viewed the cottage, it was lovely, but slightly pongy due to previous tenants dogs and cats ruining the carpets

We actually got it offered us today, but we had a discussion with my son, and he kindly offered to put us up while we find our dream property, he is a star :A

This arrangement will save us a small fortune, so we wont have to spend any of our house fund. :j

I insisted we pay food shopping for us all, gas, electric etc, and will give me a chance to spoil him too :T

I have had a discussion with our buyer, and have agreed on 26th August as a completion date. So now everything is in place, I'm so happy we decided to do this, as it means we are in an ideal position to move fast when we find our smallholding!

We spotted a property that went on the market 6th June, is is a semi-detached cottage, but at the back has out buildings, veg plots, and 3 acres of land, seems to be a contender for us, as its in the area we love :j

The downside, is its about £30k above our maximum budget :(

Ive called the agents today, and asked them to send us brochure in the post, also they e.mailed it.. I like to have a paper copy, if I love it, it gives me something to stick on fridge door to keep me inspired :) I'm thinking of arranging a viewing, hopefully as its been on the market a couple of months nearly, they may be open to reducing, but I'm a bit scared of offending with a 30k reduced offer :o

But part of me thinks- we have got nothing to lose, and after viewing it, it might not be right for us anyway, and we can say we looked anyway, and not wonder what if.. :)

If you don't ask, the answer is always no, so you increase your chances by putting in a cheeky offer, if the answer is still no you won't have lost anything.

And you will be chain free so will be low risk buyers.

I agree, you have nothing to lose by making the offer. Sounds really exciting. Good luck
