    Hello

Well today I'm very happy to report that DD cleaned the bathroom on her day off :j :T
I've cleaned the kitchen and de-flead the cats and dealt with some paperwork and done some sewing from my Toots list (oh and been to work) so a good day all round :D
Hope everyone's well - going to try to catch up with the thread now :)

  • Hi everyone
Housework is still happening on an "when i can" basis but just wanted to pop on and say that DH has finally been given a date for his op to see what exactly his tumour is - its 3rd Oct so just over a week to go, hopefully they will put a stent in and the ever increasing pain will stop and the biopsy will come back good and a way to get rid of the b@st@rd thing will be worked out

Right, back to quilting I go [trying to make one so that the expensive heating can stay off for a bit longer]

    :] :] :] :] :]

Pigpen, I didn't realise you'd had another baby. I was on another members fb page & had a nosy around & came across your page!
Congratulations x When was she born? Your page isn't open btw, just saw a recently dated pic. Also, I'm not a weird stalker, honest! Used to have you on my old fb account, but set a new one up over a year ago.

I've got loads done today, so I'm quite pleased with myself. This is a good motivational thread

Sorry to hear about your DH. You must be really worried. Hope everything works out for you. I think the waiting is almost the worst part.

Re: wedding gifts, we really didn't need anything new for the house so we said no gifts, but if people really wanted to give something then John Lewis vouchers would be lovely. Our washing machine must be 20 years old and for now is still going strong but it will be nice to have a head start when we do have to replace it.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable giving cash but I also know that receiving three toasters wouldn't be ideal when we already have one which works perfectly well. I think asking for money is becoming more common now people are living together before marriage most of the time.

That said, it's quite sad to only have envelopes and no "real" presents to open IMO. Maybe you could buy a "proper" gift if that sits better with you?

When I got married 22 years ago (almost to the day) we had a budget wedding as there were 300 guests (including elderly/infirm and babies). I felt bad about having a wedding list I felt that was like begging, but didn't want to end up with multiple irons etc. My list were in 3 books with detachable pages to try to prevent duplicates. In there I had pages saying "tea towels" "can opener" etc, but we agreed no high value items, the most expensive thing was a set of saucepans to match my dinner service.....one aged family friend of my EX's bought one tea towel a week with her shopping every week from when she saw the list til when we got married, I have used them to destruction but I will not throw them away because they mean something to me. Another elderly friend of my Dear Old Dad said she wasn't in a position to go out shopping for a present as she was short of cash, but she offered to cook all the beef, turkey and hams for the buffet while someone else collected them to be refridgerated close by to the reception venue. Children of my cousins were able to give me things like measuring spoons. We did get some envelopes with cash, which we put towards buying big electricals once our house completed 5 months later, but I really struggle to remember all these years on who gave cash.

One of my EX's cousins actually asked for people to buy shares or premium bonds with a minimum value of £100 per person attending the wedding. So I would have been expected to stump up £500 at that time, and it was suggested that maybe it was better "we" meaning me and the young Skints didn't go to save embarrassment all round.

But I agree with the lovely suggestion of making a romantic meal basket, that is the kind of thing that couple will treasure and remember when they are old and grey!

Thanks for all the comments on DH's rose. It made me smile today as I was hacking the grass, as though he was keeping an eye on proceedings!

I also like to think it has bloomed for toots whose funeral is tomorrow. The service is taking place at 10.30 so perhaps you can all send a thought up to toots and know that she is in a better place but still keeping an eye on us all :)

the sink, counter and mirrors have had a quick S&S, and a Toots list item has been done (chiselling off [STRIKE]cement[/STRIKE] toothpaste and limescale deposits from the charger of the electric toothbrush :o)

dirty washing bundled up (although WM is hungry)

    Monday - Kitchen
    15 minutes....

[STRIKE]Hover and mop floor[/STRIKE] and carried on out into the hallway while there was water in the steam mop still :)
    [STRIKE]Empty the bin[/STRIKE]
    30 minutes to spare....
    Clean a window
[STRIKE]Sort the under sink cupboard[/STRIKE] this is still tidy with everything in their trugs
    Got an hour....
    [STRIKE]Wipe the worksurfaces over[/STRIKE]
    Dust on top of shelves/cupboards/furniture
    Wipe the window sill
    Extras
[STRIKE]Sort out your T-towels, oven gloves apron, dispose of old one and wash dirty ones[/STRIKE] my tea towel box is still in neat and tidy order in the cupboard - so this is gone!
    Wipe some door handles

ETA....completely forgot DW has been fed, and sink has had a bleach bath too, paperwork hotspot has been relocated onto a chair in the hallway, so I must get on with shredding, filing or otherwise

Final catch up of the night

Froggy phone calls, Tax Credits, Child Benefit, Black Dog Appts, Council Tax, DD1's Uni. - used hold time to put on speaker phone, all glass objects and shelving polished and gleaming

Lovely Skyp£ with DD2 for nearly an hour tonight - miss her very much :(

TV,TV cabinet, Mantel piece and mirror, cleared, cleaned and polished

    LR cleared and hoovered

Furniture Neuatradolled to within an inch of its life

Living room and dining room door glass panes all cleaned

Downstairs cloak cleaned and tidied (including emptying pot pourri bowls dusting and refilling!)

DD1's bedside cabinets emptied of gibble and cleaned. double wardrobe emptied and cleaned (sadly DS brought his entire upstairs soft toy collection in, and DD1 had put herself to bed in there, so they will have to stay overnight :))

Orange oil lovely put on dining table, poor thing- can't put tablecloth back on tonight, it will keep slipping off

About ready to conk out now, will start again in the morning nighty night!
