how often do you go to the shop?

  • I hardly ever go to the shops. I work long hours and my husband works part-time so he does the food shopping once a week. I fill the car up with petrol once a week but always pay at the pump. I like clothes but I only shop every couple of months - I can't be bothered to battle with the crowds in town on a saturday or sunday, I prefer to spend my time off with friends or family or out running etc.
So, weeks can go by without me going to the shops. I don't shop on line much either - i did buy a photo frame from Amazon about 10 days ago
  • In true MSE fashion as little as possible!!

  • I detest shopping. All shopping other than music related.

I will go to the local supermarkets if there is absolutely no food left in the house, or I've run out of beer/JD/tobacco/cat food. Otherwise, I'd rather chew my own leg off than go anywhere near the places.

I have to do quite a bit of clothes buying at the moment because I've lost weight. I'll go into Primark first thing before the mums with their buggies, screaming children and MaccyD's fixation turn up, and I'll glance at something, check the size and chuck it in the basket. No faffing around trying things on or umming and aaahhhing about stuff. Precision shopping - seek, scoop, pay and escape.

Only other shopping I'm going to have to do soon is stuff to decorate my bedroom. I've already decided on paint colours, know the quantities, so all I have to do is go there, head for the paint, pick up the right number of tins, grab two rollers and a roll of Frogtape and I'm out of there within 15 minutes, allowing for queueing at the tills. Once I've done that, I won't have to decorate anything again for years - so one less shopping trip to do :j

so I fill up with petrol every 3-4 weeks. I cant remember the last time I went into town, I hate crowds and dislike all the noise and chaos. Much prefer online shopping now.

Exactly the same here. I'll fill up the car on payday and that will last me the month (even in a car that does 16mpg round town, so you can see how far I drive!). I too have a small commute (2.5 miles but walking not possible).

Shopping all gets done online, banking / financial matters all gets done online, as does insurances, xmas shopping etc.

I haven't been into our town at all this year. No need too when everything is cheaper online :)

I too hate crowds & shopping centers in general, so this works well for me!

The only time I really go into a shop is maybe the local tesco express to get some nibbles to eat as i head to work on the nightshift!

    Every day if I can.

    I love being in shops.

O/H once said to me that I treated shopping like a hobby.

    What woman doesn't?

    Me.
I hate shopping of any sort and go as little as possible.
I don't like going into places alone so try to wait till one of the kids can go with me.
I've never understood why people go shopping as a treat or time filler, I'd rather watch paint dry.

I hate supermarkets with a passion. I get a monthly Ocado or Sainsburys delivered to our house and then OH nips into tescos after work when we need fresh veg top-ups, or I'll go to Marks.

I used to dread Sundays as that was supermarket day and I would ALWAYS forget something or they wouldn't have something I wanted, and it always felt like a battle with the rest of the city.

Online grocery shopping is a massive blessing for me, especially with Ocado as they have hour slots and in my area ALWAYS come in the first 30 mins of the hour, so you're never hanging about.

I live just a 5 minute walk away from a large local shopping area and another 10 minutes away from an even bigger one, while a short bus ride takes me into the city centre which is shopping heaven.

Even if I only pop out for the paper, or a fresh loaf, or a dog treat for the dogs, I just love the shops and can't imagine living anywhere where there aren't any!

This area has it's down side, with the druggies and burglaries and general crime rates - like most big cities I suppose - but the shops go some way towards making up for the bad parts.
  • Petrol, once a week when I need it.Food shop only once a week but both of us might make our own separate trips to the town (about 3 miles each way) to get odd snacks here and there eg chocolate, crisps for movie nights.
General browsing, for clothes I'll either pop into the town I work in if I've finished early or go to the city on a tuesday when its quieter, but then I'm only there for around 2 hours.
  • most days to see what in the reduced section though i live a 1 min 45 seconds walk to the local asda

    Great thread!

I shop for food at least 3 days a week - I live near a supermarket and several decent butchers, greengrocers etc. And I work near a brilliant indoor market. I couldn't do a big weekly shop, let alone monthly, I'm too disorganised :D and I like my food fresh!

Non-essential shopping - as and when. Although, working in a city centre, I do browse round Primark once a week.

I like pottering in charity shops, and rarely leave empty-handed (even if I only buy a book for 25p) - but high street stores leave me cold. I'm just not into them, really.
Life is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A
