Aw, hey heartbreak_star. There's no need to lurk. Come and join in the chat. nobody will bite.
    :)

Thank you all for your input. I am very grateful. I have a great wee group of people on here who are all so kind, it makes me feel a lovely warm feeling inside. I really am so lucky.
    :happyhear

Finances are going to be really tight for a few months so I want to have something else to focus on. Not to mention the wedding (not mine obviously) is only 5 months away.

Ah, now I understand. You didn't have any berries, not that you had forgotten them. Now who's the silly one, yep me.
    :p

Hope you have all had a lovely day and will have a great tomorrow... OH is chatting about our future and it is making me feel so awesome. He really is amazing.

Morning ladies  Hope you all had a nice Christmas :) BBQs in Scotland are questionable enough in my mind, never mind in December :rotfl:

stewby, it sounds like your OH has turned a bit of a corner. He's getting with the programme now and sounds like he's onboard with the whole MSE thing - hurrah!!! Oh, and you sound lovely - he's not above your station at all. He's lucky to have you :)

I find/found (I dip into it occasionally when I've put on a few pounds) the 5:2 diet really easy to follow. The single most important thing to do is make every calorie count. As heartbreak-star said, it's what you eat that counts. If you're restricting your intake, you still have to feed your body what it needs. The science behind it is very interesting, and a lot of people who don't need to lose weight restrict their calorie intake to 500 calories one or two days a week as it is apparently beneficial. Also, I think it's a bit of a myth that you can eat what you want on your non-fast days. Again, you have to feed your body what it needs so my advice would be to watch your intake on those days too. Not calorie wise, more nutrition wise. I can't get my head round people thinking eating pizza and ice cream's okay because it's a non-fast day. Don't get me wrong, I know pizza and ice cream are fab and we all want to eat them. It can't be considered healthy eating though. Eating 'real' food is always going to be better than take aways/ready meals There was a BBC programme a while back by Michael Mosely which first raised my interest in it. You could probably find the programme on You Tube. There's a bit of trial and error involved in making 500 calories work for you and fitting it in to your life. I would typically have porridge with raisins and cinnamon or a slice of toast with peanut butter for a late breakfast and an early dinner of something like lentil stew. The MyFitness App was great for giving calorie content of my own recipes.

It's definitely worth researching, and I'll probably follow this for a few weeks in January to lose my Christmas excess. Skinny jeans are not my friend just now!!

Anyway, if you want any more advice, you know where I am.

What New Year activities are you ladies up to?

    Hey Siouxsie!! How are you??
    :)

We had a bbq for my granny's birthday in June a few years ago... and we had hailstones!! It was a great day and the pictures are amazing.
    :rotfl:

Only one other question about the 5:2 diet, do you have to have the two days together or can you make one a monday and the other a thursday (for example)??
    :undecided

Today is a bad day for me just cause I am missing my credit card. We went into Currys today as my dad is talking about getting an ipad and they have the old mini (only a year old mind) for £295. This is for a 64GB wifi and cellular ipad mini. I could have cried. I have wanted one for years but never bought one and now they are on offer, I am trying to behave. Spent about an hour trying to figure out how I can get it but then I think about my debt and how bad it is and how I have it better than other people as I can choose what I want to eat and buy, etc and I felt a bit guilty.
    :embarasse

Might try and convince OH to give it to me for my bday instead.
    ;)

New year is awesome!! Planning on seeing in the bells in our house before heading to my parents then on to my granny's house where almost the whole family turn up to celebrate. My granny loves it!!
We end up heading home at about 05:00ish.
    :D

Hope you all have a lovely day.
    Hugs.

No New Year plans here, my Dad left this morning for a trip to Dartmouth with his friends - they've rented a cottage by the sea. My sister is going to be off somewhere with her friends so I think I'm going to snuggle up on the sofa with the very nice bottle of wine I was given for Christmas and the Tivo box. I know my Mum isn't planning anything because of Nana.

Sounds like pursuading OH (or other family members) it would be a good birthday pressie is the way forward for that one. I'm still tempted by a Kindle Fire but I know I'd not use it enough to make it worth while at the moment and wouldn't want to carry a Fire and my Kindle around when I travel so for now just not worth it.

Spoke to my dad... he is such an amazing person.
If I work a couple of extra bank shifts then he will save me some money in my big account so that I can get my ipad for my birthday.
    :D

I have considered dropping hints about buying it now in case the sale ends but that might be pushing my luck.
    :o

Aw, scubaangel. I hope your mum is coping okay with your nana. Do you still think she will pass on new years eve?? (I think you said that was your grandad's birthday). Whatever happens, I hope she is comfortable and painfree and that you and your family remember just how much you did for her by allowing her to come home. Thinking of you all.
    Hugs.

Saving the bank money sounds like a good compromise to me.

If she has her way she will! She's said alot more often since CD that she wants to go to my grandad and is still certain there's a friend in the room with her even when shes alone, and I remember my Grandad was much the same before he passed - he kept asking Mum to stop me and my sister from tickling his toes and whispering in his ear even when we were out at school. So I can't imagine it's going to be long, I just hope she gets her wish to just go to sleep and forget to wake up when the time does come.

I'm going over this evening with some pictures of some jewellery, she gave me and my sister money for Christmas and I said I was going to put it towards some of the Hot Diamonds Emozioni range, but I can't decide which of the coin's to get so I've picked three and am going to see if she'll help me choose one.

Aw that sounds lovely. I bet she will love helping you pick out your present.
    :)

Your nana is so lucky to have family around her who love her so much. I imagine she is very proud of you all.

Hope you have a nice and calming new year.

Hi Stewby ... a belated merry festivities to you, we've all had the lurgy here but just about surfacing now! Glad you've had a good one!

5:2 diet works well, OH has lost loads of weight on it. I'm not allowed to follow it to the letter due to medical reasons, but I join him with having homemade soup on those two days as our main meal and it's also saved us quite a bit of cash. I'm going to be a bit stricter with it in the new year though, as I need to get rid of the interesting shape steroids have given me :( Lurgy has helped though, lost 3lb over Christmas and the tub of Heroes is still sealed!

Speaking of sealed tubs, I'm thinking of using my sealed pot to help me shape up in 2014: £1 for a 1lb - I'll put a £1 in the pot for every 1lb I lose, or fine myself £1 for each 1lb I put on! I've got about 60lb to lose so it seems a good way to get the sealed pot in better shape too! Might be an idea which appeals to you ... I know we follow a lot of the same challenges!

Anyway, all the best for the coming year Stewby, you've come so far this year on your quest, I'm sure 2014 will bring you even better progress!

I have to say my iPad mini is my favourite present ever! I use it everyday and for everything. My OH got it for me last year and I am massively grateful (although I might not tell him today as he's being a pain in the bum today).

I think doing the bank shifts to help fund it would be a great idea and very motivating to think that you are going to work on that day to get closer towards the iPad. I also reckon your dad will buy it soon, as you say he is very savvy and will realise it might not be that price forever.

Not done much today, was supposed to get my hair cut and coloured :) but the hairdresser had flu when I arrived and suggested I reschedule :( At least I've hopefully avoided catching it!

The Skinny Rules is going ok but it's difficult with all the Christmas food and chocolates still in the house. I'm trying really hard to resist temptation and my meals are all good, just need to keep out of the chocolate tin!

Looking forward to the January Challenge now!

    Hugs to all

Hi Habibiboo. Hope you had a lovely Xmas.
    :D

My dad is very keen on the 5:2 diet. He exercises a lot now due to the doggy so he just needs to cut down his dietary intake.
My plan is to use the myfitnesspal app to reduce the number of calories I eat.
    :)

Oooooooooooooooooh. I don't really have any money left any more as I have budgetted all my money away. Maybe I can scrape some pennies together from our food budget. I don't imagine I will lose hundreds of lbs in the first month. Mores the pity.
    ;)

Without sounding mean, I am glad you have a lot of lbs to lose. I was feeling a bit embarassed when other people were saying about losing a stone or a few lbs and here I am with 72lbs as my aim. It made me feel a bit of a slob. That sounds awful, please don't take offence.
    :embarasse

I might ask my OH to sponsor me seeing as he would like me to be healthier.
    :p

Hope you and your family feel better soon habibiboo and very good luck for 2014. I hope it is kind to you and you achieve your goals.
    Hugs.
