Thanks for the good wishes, I am so excited.
Ooooooooooh. that fitness pal thing looks really good!! It has restaurants in it as well. I have always done the slimming world diet but this one might be better for me. Thanks for the link runforlife.
Parents are thrilled. My Dad is looking forward to getting rid of me (or so he says, he loves me really).
I think I am going to do the envelope system in January and see how it goes. OH is going to join me on the diet and he is happy enough with the budget.
I hope the picture looks better than the last one clippy_girl.

I can't believe people are finding this diary inspirational. It's just me rambling and making very little sense. It's a bit scary to be honest but very humbling. So, thank you very much.
I hope everyone has a wonderful xmas... I will be sleeping most of it. (still get to open pressies and have lunch so can't complain).
Happy Christmas Everyone!!

Congratulations stewby, am sure you'll come home from Paris with the piccy you want of the two of you.
If you give mfp a try you can add friends I use it, same user name as here, you can link apps like endomondo to it too so it automatically logs calories burned off through exersize too. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Morning. A wee bitty hyper this morning so am still awake. Need to sleep though as taking mum and dad to a b-day party today. It's a bbq.
There were a few powercuts on xmas eve so we had a bit of a giggle imagining all the people cooking beer can chicken but with turkey. (if you haven't heard of it, it is where you take a tin of beer, drink half, shove the half still in the tin up the chicken's cavity and bbq it. apparently it is delicious).
Hope everyone has a lovely boxing day.

A BBQ in December?
Welcome to North East Scotland!!
:rotfl:
BBQs in winter isn't that bad. The alcohol kinda numbs the cold or gives you a booze blanket. (sadly, I was the designated driver so I froze).
Came home from that and headed to see my niece and nephew. Santa and their families had spoilt them both rotten.
Cherry coke has gotten me through so far as only had about 3 hours sleep and was beginning to fail earlier.
:undecided
Can't believe you went to the next sales fmess. That is my idea of hell. I would probably end up with three tops in the wrong size and a black eye.
Good luck on your first day tomorrow (of your new diet). Please let me know how you are getting on and everything. We can hopefully support each other to achieve our goals.
I am really looking forward to January. I now have three financial challenges on the go.
1) The £1 a day challenge. (A.K.A £365 in 365 days). OH is going to put £1 in as well so it will be £2 a day and the aim is to stop on the 1st November so we can use the money for xmas pressies.
Target is £600.
2) The weekly challenge. OH and I are halving this one. So each week you contribute the week number. (we are going in reverse order) so the first week in January would be £52.
Target £1378.
3) and most importantly... whatever challenge NSK sets every month. I am very grateful for the guidelines she sets as without them, I would have floundered and given up long ago. NSK helps give me something to aim for and focus on so her monthly challenges are definitely very important to me. (they will also help me to achieve the other two financial challenges).
Obviously, I have my main aims of 2014 and other, non-financial challenges such as my diet but I have already spoken about them at length. Don't want to make you all fall asleep.
Roll on 1st January for financial challenges and 3rd January for my diet challenge.

We used to have a BBQ at New Year but we're only in Lancs so not quite as likely to freeze to death instantly as NE Scotland.
My Dad and Sister went to the Trafford Centre at 0730 this morning, I heard them get up and went back to sleep. Can't imagine anything worse than the sales on Boxing Day. Good luck with day 1 of the diet fmess.
The challenges look good stewby.
I really can't face sorting out my own goals for the year yet, but will start thinking about them soon I guess. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I have just realised I never asked you about the mystery man. Did you speak to your friend??
I am a very big fan of planning. Almost to the point of it being quite embarassing. I also like everything to match and be very neat so any errors and the whole lot gets binned and I start again. I have set pens I use and do everything by hand and put it onto A5 paper and into A5 folders (within polypockets so they don't get damaged of course).
An example of my neatness OCD with regards to paperwork: I have OH and I's DVD collection set out in the same way as above... and I am currently writing out our recipe collection in the same way too. Any mistakes (even if at the end of the recipe) and I have to start again.
I do the same with travel planning. I am quite proud of my neatness.
Oh!! I have the same gel ink pens that I like to use but they are no longer being made so I now have about 18 of them so that I don't run out.
I don't mind internet or supermarket shopping but I just hate the idea of people pushing and shoving and eurgh. If you know what I mean.
:undecided
I am trying to avoid the sales cause I promised NSK in the challenge. It's harder than I thought.
I have a quick wee question for you. I am going to use the myfitness app thing but I am a bit considered as one of the meals I have quite often is really high in calories which made me wonder how many calories I should be cutting down to??
One of my favourite meals:
2 tesco lighter choice tortilla wraps.
some baked beanz.
some grated mozarella cheese.
some hp honey bbq sauce.
ready cooked chicken.
And yet, it equals about 800 calories. If I was to cut down to 1000, I wouldn't be able to eat anything else!! Please help??
edit: other question... how do you work out calories for homemade food?? Cause I like soup but it is literally just water, a couple of stock cubes and veggies then it is mushed up. It makes about 6 portions I think, maybe more.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

I set mine to losing 1lb a week with a moderately active lifestyle which I think put me at about 1300 calories a day. Which for me was a reasonable number once I started thinking about what I was eating and ways to save a few/earn a few calories back, tbh more often than not when I added things in and realised it was horrifically high calories I'd reduce the high calorie bits in favour of more lower calorie bits - usually more veggies.
In terms of the HM soup, best bet, log in to the website and create the recipe, it's really fiddly on the app but on a computer screen its easier (but the app is easier for other things). I've done it for a few things I've made myself, the process is the same as adding individual meal items.
Don't forget if you're using the pedometer still you can try to calculate the exersize you're doing to earn back some calories too.
I've found mostly that long term even when I'm not logging I now eat fewer calories overall than I did before. I also find that where I used to eat three big meals a day I only have one biggish meal, one small, and a few healthy snacks.
Edited to add. I also pay more attention to the weekly average than the daily one, some days you just want calorific food others soups and salads are just fine or come the last day of the week I'd push myself in to doing extra exersize. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
